I learned so much from the latest @TheWarOnCars with Dr Tara Goddard. My biggest takeaway - many examples of how biased almost all reporting is toward traffic violence.

Did that child “dart into the road”? Or were they just a kid crossing the street?

Are people on bikes “risk takers”? Or does the road itself present risk?

After this episode, you won't be able to ignore how headlines are written in “exonerative tense” to forgive the sins of car drivers & road designers.

If you want to build a city for people, you have to start by talking to the people who already live in your city.

We found out the one most compelling reasons for parents to support Safe Routes To School and Safe Streets in #Seattle was support of free school meals.

According to this fairly rigorous study in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2017, other factors equal, women on bikes were 3.8 times more likely to be close-passed, aka "punishment pass" than men.

What kinds of roads we choose to build (and for whom we build them) is relevant to creating a future we can thrive in.

Back in the #USA, #Oregon Metro planner Robert Spurlock calculated a complete linked 1,000 MILE network of low-impact regional walk/bike trails would cost $500M. That's half the cost of expanding a mile of I-5 freeway. Admittedly that's just for 3-meter ribbons of asphalt, not beautiful Dutch fietspad with complex crossings and community input.

But we have to make choices now.

3.7% of #London's population lives in an #LTN

LTNs use signs, planters, bollards, cameras to reduce cut-thru #cars

Most people who live in an LTN don't know it

Emergency responder time stayed the same

58% less #traffic, 50% fewer collisions, cleaner #air

Business owners like LTNs
