So I don’t really understand why people are still trying to educate others about the problems of closed platforms, algorithms and how they work with silos like threads and blue sky. It’s very clear that people just want to talk to their friends and they don’t care about close platforms versus open platforms, algorithms, or who controls it or any thing of the sort. My advice, rather than try and convince people to move over to an open activity pub enabled platform, just let them do their thing and continue to improve the open social network. When their beloved social media platform goes through the #Enshitification cycle and they’re looking for an alternative because they realized that their platform was out of their control, that’s when you show them your much more mature open social media then it was years ago. In short, if they want algorithms, let them have it over there in a closed platform. Let them go over there. Let’s just continue to improve the space and cultivate this space into something people wanna actually join. #BlueSky#Threads
Today on Nova Prime, I talk about my personal opinion and ideas on what actually happened with Google and XMPP, re: "embrace, extend, extinguish," and whether Threads has the power to extinguish ActivityPub in its sleep, if they should happen to pull out suddenly
@cmdr_nova Great post! I do think there are some parallels between #Google & #Threads, but I also think we have less reasons to fear from Threads shafting the #Fediverse.
Time to blog up something quick on #WriteFreely! 😂
The future is fragmented, decentralized, so I’m publishing from my own blog and cross-posting to several platforms at once, this is a test for #Threads, having already connected #mastodon#bluesky#nostr#linkedin
@davidnason I am enjoying following several news channels & celebrities on #Threads, although I do wish more sports celebrities would join.
That said, I suggest switching to a solo account that you can manage, & I suggest using @mastohost (https://masto.host) as they can manage the tech while you focus on being creative.
- Utilizem hashtags, quanto puder.
Abuso? Reporte.
The fedi is designed to never have the problem that #Brazil is dealing with. Each server might have users that a government has a problem with and chooses to block, but then users can move and keep their connections. No corporate owner can fuck you. That's not really true with #bluesky or #threads yet, if it ever will be. Here we do have to worry about #mastodon and #MastodonDotSocial (or any other server/app) eventually fully dominating the #SocialWeb. But we all care deeply about that.
I can already see that if you are on the Fediverse with different account names for each instance how annoying this is when you circulate content from one of your instances to another. Is there a way to streamline all instances into one post? #threads#activitypub#fediverse
"Since June, users have been able to see fediverse replies on their posts if they enabled #fediverse sharing in the app’s settings. Once enabled, the sharing option allows users to syndicate their posts across the wider social web and then see how people on other services have responded. Now users will be able to see the fediverse replies on other people’s posts, too. This immediately brings more content into #Threads, even without a sizable increase in Threads users."
"On Wednesday, Meta announced that users on Threads will be able to see fediverse replies on other posts besides their own. In addition, posts that originated through the Threads API, like those created via third-party apps and scheduling services, will now be syndicated to the fediverse."
Pretty interesting "podcast" here on Activity Pub, AT Protocol, and the Fediverse overall. I say podcast due to it really just being kind of a video essay with many segments and cuts. Talks about the Fediverse, how things came about, and where things are going. It's good to see more of this getting out to the masses. It's by @mkbhd, @andrew_manganelli, @davidimel, and @parmesanpapi17.
@nomadicschematic Reply from Mastodon took about 5min to show up on Threads, so about 5-10 min on either side to show up. Ohhh, no replies from Threads back to Mastodon, you can just see…Huh. Makes sense of why I couldn't @ mention, wondered how that was going to work. So, Threads cannot @ mention or Follow back to Mastodon yet. Got it! #threads#fediverse
Huge news! Now not only can you follow #Threads users from #Mastodon but your replies to their posts can now be seen by them as well. It opens up some pretty huge possibilities.
I posted a message to my Facebook showing friends who are on Threads how to share to the Fediverse. Facebook removed my post and claimed that it was spam. Spam, by definition, is something that is repeatedly cross-posted. This was only posted one to my friends network. #Threads#Facebook#Fediverse@mosseri
