We need to stigmatize centralized people farms like #LemmyWorld, #ShitJustWorks, #Lemmee, etc just like #AOL users were in the 90s. Make it clear that these accidental #Cloudflare supporters are made aware that they lack a nuanced understanding of the #fedi #decentralization concept. If it’s as successful as the AOL stigma was, we can get more people to join the free world.

Well, turns out with the way BlueSky handles domains specifically, I can create a new Fediverse instance AND use it as my BlueSky handle. That's pretty neat. One day something will happen at BeAware.social, but I haven't decided what yet.🤔

Another personal instance for sure, but idk what software yet. I have time.

Been having a strange issue on the new Sharkey instance.

I have object storage on and it's going through my domain through cloudflare. However, sometimes the uploaded media goes to the media.thesocial.zone/proxy and sometimes it goes to media.thesocialzone/file/<bucket>. I believe the 2nd one is correct but I'm not sure why it's going to a proxy folder. Could this be because I have the "proxy" setting on cloudflare for the object storage and I should turn that off? 🤔😬

If anyone knows anything and can offer advice, please let me know.

Anyone have any idea what could cause federated instances to *not* pull in profile pics and headers?

I am running a separate Sharkey (Misskey fork) instance and there's a few examples of this happening.

I have CDN with Cloudflare and that seems to work. The "remote caching" feature on Sharkey is turned off. However, both my instance and another instance have issues pulling icons and headers both ways (Mine doesn't show up on certain instances either)

Most of the stuff that I talked about here, I've just done today, so it COULD be that it just needs time to update, but I am unsure right now.

And this is why I currently love AI....I took the Oliphant's Unified Tier 0 Blocklist CSV and ChatGPT gave me the list of domains within so I can import it into Misskey/Sharkey.

I'd post it here, but Mastodon doesn't let you upload files that aren't "media".🤷♂️

Obviously I don't know everything there is to know about Fediverse and ActivityPub. I don't have firsthand knowledge because I'm not a dev.

However, what I do have that a lot of others don't, is passion.

I am passionate about the Fediverse in a way that I don't think some people are. I want this platform to succeed and thrive because if it does, then so do I because then I get to interact with SO many more talented people!

THAT is what I'm advocating for. Open platform by default with the options to choose who you do or do not want to interact with and the content you do or do not want to see.

No *whispering sweet nothings into the algorithms ear*. No forced ads. No cookies to track me across websites.

This is the future of social media and if I'm the last damn person here, then sobeit. But I love most of you people here and I believe in all of you. I believe we can make this platform a safe, welcoming, open platform where we can share our lives, passions, jobs, and hobbies across the federated universe of social media.

The future is you. Without each of you. Fediverse wouldn't be where it is today and neither would I.

Ugh. I am SO jelly of android today after spending a bit of time with #Megalodon, it's very robust and has some pretty neat features.

Not to mention, it works with Sharkey.😩Where's the iOS native app love for Misskey forks? We have like...2. And they can't touch Megalodon with a mile-long pole...

If I see you do this and you're in my circle, I'll most definitely block you when I notice. People that browse hashtags don't deserve to be spammed with irrelevant posts.🙄

Idk why I didn't think of this. I guess some would find it annoying to see I boost my own posts, but I wouldn't have to do it that way if it was shown to my followers in the first place!🤦♂️

All in all, I found a temporary solution until the issue is somehow worked around down the line...🤷♂️

I really hope we can get some good people from Threads to move over before Meta starts to do even more untrustworthy things.

Besides the absolutely absurdly move of following and pushing a fake"Fediverse" account that makes people think Fediverse is a single entity or organization, they've already started discussions about expansions to AP to allow platforms to support ads and other shitty ways of monetization.

Fedi needs to make money to survive, I know that. I am behind that, but ads are the shadiest of all the monetization methods because of tracking. Nobody wants to be tracked no matter how "innocent" their activities are.

They've been REALLY quiet since activating AP on their end in a seemingly bad faith move to make the Fediverse seem "useless and pointless to use" by forcing users to educate themselves on the Fediverse if they even know it exists while also making the option to turn it on obscenely hard to locate from normal use.

All in all, I'm VERY skeptical of Meta's intentions and don't really think they'll end up fully federating in the end becuase "why enable a feature that a wide number of our users think is a useless feature?". I feel right now is as far as they're gonna go with it, maybe worldwide, but still one way because that benefits them, not us, and they won't push a feature that people think is useless.

Obviously this is intentional bad faith tactics, but they still have time to prove me wrong and I really hope they do. I really really hope one day we get full federation, but I would be very delusional to have high hopes that such a thing will ever occur given this week's revelations.🤦♂️

Well well....I'm PLEASANTLY surprised by Oliphant pulling his advocation for .art being involved in his blocklists and no longer even hosting ANY Tier besides Tier 0 or the "DNI" list!

That means I'm no longer on "Oliphant's Tier 3 blocklist" for lies by .art...because it no longer exists!

The little nuances of Fedi are still sometimes confusing to me, even though I've been here for almost a year, in realtime cause I have insomnia😬.

For example, I have an alt on mastodon.social for browsing certain stuff but when I login, some replies I've made from my main (this account) to others, don't show up on the home timeline. I have to go into the thread to see them...🤔and no, they're not "unlisted".

Strange....
