@lanodan @novenary @Paradox well gn is the way to write the palatal nasal in french. as it turns out oignon is just a leftover of when ign was the grapheme for that instead and while most instances of it got changed to plain gn (montaigne -> montagne for example) oignon kept ign. so it's a regularization of that specific bit
