it correlates with economic insecurity. rich people don't feel worse cause they're now having fancy parties with more people of mixed ethnicities. people are happy to move for better jobs. the person of another ethnicity who does something you like is not a problem. it's only when your life sucks that most people freak out about "diversity".
peoples are always mixing. we define groups arbitrarily by drawing borders at certain times.
