You're thinking of the ancaps. Where a monarchist blathers about national character when you ask why people follow the law, the anarchist says the obviously true thing: it's because the cops have guns and there are a lot of cops. That's realism.

"Right/left" is a stupid framing created for the French Revolution and resurrected by communists in order to paint an imaginary line because that framing of the issue agrees with their philosophy and rhetoric. Applying it is playing into a rhetorical trap, and you ought to stop.

The only axis that actually matters is how much of a say a stranger has over your life. You want to argue which form of authoritarianism is more stable and this is like comparing the half-life of two substances that are chemically poisonous: I don't want to eat either of them since they'll both kill me.
