Didn't ask how many there are on paper. First of all, only about a third of those is mission capable at any given time. Second, having a plane is not the same as being able to afford to lose it. If you lose them in Iran, what do you do when the Chinese waltz into Taiwan? Armories are pretty depleted already because a bunch of stuff was given to the Ukraine and the Russians have blown it up. Lose some more in Iran and you have no power projection capability left.
