Most people don't like Silver because his debut was in a bad game, never minding the fact that he's shown his potential in several spinoff games, or never mind the fact that people sure do love those Sonic '06 levels in Generations (because they were remade to not suck sure, but they'll still write off an entire character over it).

Silver's space is more in the comics now anyway.
