MORNING WORKOUT: CARDIO 2
Kata learning, 15 minutes
Run with dog, play with dog, 60 minutes
I might do this more often, adding some more steady state cardio and sprints to life by just running my dog ragged.
She has this game she likes to play, we call it "keep away." She bites down on a ball or rope and runs around with it, expecting you to chase her until you catch her - and then it's tug of war, you have to remove the object from her mouth by strength and wit. It's a fun way to get lots of sprinting and a bit more creative pulling exercises - good for the lats and biceps!

@hammerswinger @anti-climacus Yeah... Grappling always struck me as insurance when it comes to streetfights. You don't ever *want* to take the fight to the ground on pavement, but if it goes there you want to make sure you win.
Styles based on throws and slams are a different ball game though. Greco and Judo are more practical imho for streetfighting, especially as one good fireman's throw will probably keep your assailant from ever wanting to move again.

@SuperLutheran @hammerswinger @anti-climacus Having been in my share of altercations without a referee, it's really helpful to be able to put someone on the ground when you choose, and to stay off the ground when you don't want to be there. Wrestling and judo are great for that. Striking, it's good to have a base so that you don't get ktfo, but having done both I think you're better off with advanced grappling/throwing and basic striking than the reverse. Six months of boxing puts you at dangerous to the untrained, six months of grappling puts you at just barely above untrained.

@anti-climacus @SuperLutheran Bjj got me in really good physical condition. Guys show up to the gym I train at and start dropping excess weight fast. For practical fighting, the right Bjj school can make you real good at takedowns and takedown defense, as well as making you slippery to your opponent. Try to get grips on a good Bjj player and you find out. Just… don’t pull closed guard in a street fight ?

@SuperLutheran Enjoyed the message about fighting immensely. Could you recommend the best style for me? Here’s my stats
Mid forties
Lifetime street fight record (1-0, 0 KOs)
6’ 3” 248 (slightly obese)
0 quick twitch fibers
Enjoyed BJJ (20 or so classes) but only offensive move was to get to mount and try to suffocate
training partner.

@GLObalMARinePR @SuperLutheran @hammerswinger @anti-climacus Problem with close combat for defense in a street fight is that all it takes is one asshole with a knife to be totally hosed. Defending unarmed against a knife is actually pretty fucking hard and even if successful you still probably getting stabbed.
