     @Marvin @FeartnTired @DollyCat @Flick @GrumpyOldNurse @ninapaley Yeah, my coworker is from a rural area, and went home on Thanksgiving to hunt deer, so they would have meat to freeze. It’s not really a prestigious thing, if you keep it simple and local.

     I, too, am a hunter.

     @FeartnTired @DollyCat @Flick @GrumpyOldNurse @Hollahollara @ninapaley yeah, it's funny, the shooting scene is completely different over there. Hunting here is a commoner thing and the gun market reflects that. A not insignificant number of rural people in the US get a decent chunk of their dietary protein from things they've hunted. (my state puts out a cookbook: https://dnr.maryland.gov/cookbook/Pages/home.aspx )
     
     But in the UK, as you note, it's much more of a hobby for the elite. And they love their shotguns. So there are luxury brands of shotguns in the UK that sell for tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds.

     @Hollahollara @DollyCat @FeartnTired @Flick @ninapaley now don't get me wrong, I love guns. But there's one magazine I see in the magazine rack at the grocery store that keeps me persistently puzzled: Guns of the Old West.
     
     Like... the old west is over. At some point you're going to run out of material. Why a magazine? Why not a book? If you're really dedicated, maybe a series of books. But a periodical? Makes no sense.
     
     It confuses me every time.
