     @sun there's some real rose colored glasses about indigenous tribes. people like to ignore the part where aztecs had slavery and human sacrifice and modern practices like lucha fights are still coded in the historical tradition of recreational decapitation (removing a luchador's mask is symbolism for this decapitation.)

     @sun I would like to think that there's a happy medium between turning the country into North Korea and making it into an employment agency where everyone aims to be the lowest bidder on any given job. I still think that punishing decision-makers at companies that commit fraud for a quick buck would solve some problems. Reforming the byzantine and archaic immigration system would solve quite a bit more.
     
     Unfortunately, the system is broken by design and I think our elites quite enjoy the demoralizing factor that it brings.

     @sun @icedquinn It's funny that they keep bringing up Cortez as this imperialistic monster when he got off the boat, went "uoh brown lady", and got a priest to annul his marriage so he could marry a Nahua girl he fell for.
     You had an actual genocidal maniac in Pizarro in South America, but there aren't enough South Americans in the US for that name to really resonate with people, so it has to be default "white man bad", I guess.
     
     When I ask the "stolen land" crowd how they know that the current batch of natives didn't genocide another people to get where they are today, and let them know that if that happened, those people were completely forgotten because no one wrote anything down, they get really uncomfortable. It's not like the natives were a bunch of saints. When the English arrived in North America, the Iroquois were in the process of conquering upstate New York by massacring and torturing Algonquins until they fled west.

     @sun i find it funny how people completely miss how "stolen land" retroactively became a thing. Land as property is a capitalist concept. I do not mean to downplay the harm caused by colonialism. I want to point out that "stolen land" is thinking in terms capitalism.
