      Judges have immunity for official acts. Lawyers have quasi-immunity. We have more immunity against adverse parties, due to the litigation privilege, than against our own clients. It's complicated.

      From what I understand, it's never a good idea, at least if the prosecution is good at what they do. They can try to get you to trip up in ways you didn't mean to, even if you're innocent. I've never been in court except for one time for jury duty (I didn't make the cut because I told them I would be unable to be unbiased against the defendant due to my prior employment history)

      Self-defense isn't a fully affirmative defense, the state actual bears the burden of establishing it wasn't beyond a reasonable doubt. The issues is getting the jury instruction. There has to be some prima facie showing that it's viable. Prima facie is a very low standard.
