     I used to have the first model. A friend of mine traveled abroad and brought one for himself, tried to install Win XP on it because normies are allergic to Linux, and then realized the small screen kinda sucked for Windows. Then I bought it from him for pretty cheap. Pretty nifty machine for the time, TBH, and the custom Linux it used worked pretty well for the format.
     
     It's a shame it's mainboard died a few years later. I wish I still had it around.

     Shit, mine half-exploded when I tried to use an aftermarket battery in it. (I really wanted a machine that I could use all day and just leave the charger at home.) So, like many of its laptop buddies before, it became a machine that existed to sit next to the bed and play videos. It did an admirable job at that for a few years until a different laptop's battery failed on me, and then it was shelved a little while but eventually resurrected as a machine that existed to sit next to the bed and play SNES games. Eventually it was dropped and the screen cracked (it looked cool but could not be used) and, like...an ultra-portable with a half-fried board and a busted screen was useless.

     @sun @ForbiddenDreamer @jeremiah It's a little more rugged than the DevTerm so it's easier to carry it around. Only issues are the paucity of USB ports (which you can solve by soldering and dremeling, but I haven't) and the thumb keyboard is fine for cmus and stuff but I can't sit down and work on the thing like I can with the DevTerm.

     @ins0mniak @p @jae no, but I barked at one once. It was during the exploding shoes era where I had to take my sandals off for a commuter flight. They got stuck at the edge of the scanner, and after politely asking him to push them along, I got a bit loud.
     
     At the same airport, I picked up a friend who was returning from an event in Japan. That meant, for her, a considerable amount of time with no cigarette.
     
     So the second she was off the plane, it was all about a cigarette. So we get outside and... she has no lighter. So she's tearing through her bag's outer pockets, which is when a TSA lady comes to sit on the bench and smoke.
     
     Around then, a nice spyderco slides out of her bag, having defied security in multiple airports in two countries.
     
     TSA lady says, "oh, they want to us to look for so much shit we probably miss all of it lol".
     
     TSA stands for Thousands Standing Around.

     I imagine how the code "works" by imagining it like a map with paths and tunnels , after spending long enough imagining it like a 2d/3d map I can just type out the code without having to think and it works on the first try
     
     maybe guys who go to code school are used to drawing flowcharts and working off that, idk, i never went to code school, but having a drink or two in me helps me get flexible about first imagining "how the code should work" and then makes bridging the gap between "how it should work" and "what it is" painless and effortless
     
     This is also why weed is not useful for me as a programming aid, get too distracted to build up mental models and then too distracted to reproduce them in the text editor

I think this is one of the attributes of the split between people that are top-down and very, like, consciously driven about code versus people that are bottom-up and subconsciously driven. I write some stuff and I don't know why I'm writing it the way I'm writing it until I've finished writing it.

But the FBI was a different story. J Edgar Hoover was worried that people claiming UFO encounters were potential cultists, communist sympathizers or general faggots (his words). He was pretty keen to keep an eye on them so in the files there;s a bunch of stuff from regional ufo investigation clubs...people getting together at the best western to talk about aliens and stuff and Hoover thinks these people are national security threats lol

     I rarely actively plan for software; I'll decide I want to write some code and then go off and do other stuff (go to gym, play video games, walk, whatever) and my mind will suddenly tell me "hey go type this into the computer we figured this out"
     
     back in my public school days I was a math prodigy ; same issue, I would mostly solve math problems by intuition rather than step by step calculation , get >95% on all exams without having to actively think or "show work" but just trusting my gut , teachers would ask me how I solved problems and I could only answer "idk I just know"
     
     one reason why I am a hobby programmer instead of corporate drone I guess
