The bill for my emergency room visit 2 weeks ago was about $800. Honestly, by Burgerland standards, that's pretty cheap; I was expecting to pay $2000-3000. -

@josemanuel I'd love to have publicly-funded health care. I'm not a cuckservative, I'm fine voting for things that are good. Another Linux Walt Alt likes this. -

@noyoushutthefuckupdad Wanna know the bill for my cancer treatment since I was diagnosed in 2022? $0. Seriously, you need public healthcare. Make it your number one priority in every election. It's not communism, but even if it was, it's worth it. Fuck whoever tells you the contrary. They're your enemy.

@leyonhjelm @ChristiJunior @jeremiah @sim @josemanuel next time I get majorly sick/injured, I might go to a hospital in another country. I will save money and be seen much faster. -

I ran a cost comparison between my last employer health plan (including what the employer pays as that’s not really free) and the cost of being a full time student at a nearby University inclusive of optional student health insurance. The university option was only a few more thousand than the health plan, and the health plan pays out very little.

@jeremiah @ChristiJunior @josemanuel @leyonhjelm @noyoushutthefuckupdad I can confirm. It's really weird even for me when there are huge issues with it which don't get addressed because it is seen as sacred.
It's free at the point of entry. But you end up paying for it in taxes or borrowing from the future. So, I guess they have technically borrowed from the young generations now using it and made their lives worse.
The waiting is terrible now. -

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @leyonhjelm @jeremiah @josemanuel Britbongs gassing up the NHS as if it's their greatest national pride (to the point of shilling it during the Olympics) is fucking bizarre.... -

@leyonhjelm @noyoushutthefuckupdad @josemanuel there's also the part about most of the national health systems in the anglosphere being a counterexample.
Would you prefer free healthcare with multi-year waits for critical surgeries, or going broke with timely medicine?
It makes sense in theory, but worldwide, the practice has been an urgent warning. -

I’m ok with it conceptually but leery of what the result would be. Because our government is really shitty at everything and I’ve known veterans who have considered suicide over dealing with the VA over even basic care.
