some guy I know released a tool for auto-tagging images and it's set up to auto DL gemma4 and llama-cpp, both of which I already have.

IMPROVEMENT #1: ADD LZ4 SUPPORT!!! 🥺
btrfs has zlib (slow), lzo (trash on incompressible data), and zstd (based)... but NO LZ4?? like wut!! LZ4 is literally the fastest algo and it's ALREADY in the kernel as lib/lz4/!!! here's basically what the code would look like:

IMPROVEMENT #2: SMART HEURISTIC INSTEAD OF DUMB FIRST-BLOCK CHECK 😤
Right now in inode_need_compress() it calls btrfs_compress_heuristic() which checks if the FIRST block compresses well and if not marks the WHOLE FILE as NOCOMPRESS forever!! That's SO random (bad random)!!!
Here's a fix:

you need numerical specific compression. i have some ideas how that could be done but i've nobody qualified to talk to about it :comfyshrug:

@icedquinn @lain @lolitechengineer it works good, seems reliable even with potential usb disconnects. currently the array is down though because I figured out I could use the good quality usb ssd as an external drive on my iphone and capture raw video to it. I was doing some videos of really detailed rolling fields of wheat, and the iphone compression just destroyed the video. but blackmagic capture plus external ssd and render using ffmpeg later fixed it

i've been seeing some of the glam folk talk about how the "ai detection" craze is giving them a lot of shit. iphone cameras are basically hallucinating images as a matter of policy. so what you are actually getting is 3-4 shitty garbage cameras through an ML model that tries to reconstruct what the image should be, on top of a pound of makeup applied, and the detectors are just going "looks airbrushed must be AI." its.. certainly something.
