By the way, the Dell Latitude e6400 has been an equally viable alternative to these old thonkpads for a while now and are still cheap. They even come in an XFR rugged variant too which are even more tanks than the ThinkPads are. Also the (first gen?) @besserwisser@shitposter.world @phnt@pl.borked.technology @hfaust@shitposter.world If you manage achieve RYF certification the FSF will promote your business and send customers your way.
But I know people who RYF stores and it is not as easy as it sounds. It is hard to keep everything in stock and ensure working condition for hardware like this. You also have to build infrastructure where people can place orders and pay without proprietary JavaScript which is also harder than it sounds thanks to shitty payment providers. In conversation permalink -

@SuperDicq @hfaust @phnt I would like to have such a shop. And I know I said it sounds like "easy money" but I actually think businesses should have some difficulties to set up or else you would have too much competition and it's too hard to break into the industry again. That said, I could always start small, have at least a product that's 100% free software, sell small batches and work myself towards RYF certification. In conversation permalink -

@besserwisser@shitposter.world @hfaust@shitposter.world @phnt@pl.borked.technology Yeah, there's not a lot of sellers, but it's also very niche. Most people aren't interested in RYF hardware because it is either super expensive (Like RaptorComputing Power 9 boards) or very old (X200 laptops or Asus D16 desktops).
I believe most people unfortunately buy hardware that is "free with minimum required blobs", such as Librem or Starlabs hardware. In conversation permalink -

Unlike console signatures, which are usually a joke (i.e. the keys are included in a bunch of places needlessly, or can be determined by making the software encrypt all 0 with the xor key), intel finally figured out how to do RSA correctly starting from the core i series. In conversation permalink -
