    Help me @ai6yr , you're my only hope

    Do these things really not have a pin , and use a pressure fit to hold things together?

      @W6KME @IcooIey @ai6yr this makes sense. The handle is quite old amd dried out. I was looking at it and thinking it needed to be sanded and oiled

      @IcooIey @ai6yr @ATLeagle Put the fork back in the handle, tap the other end of the handle on the ground to set the tang. If it keeps coming out, put a thin piece of wood like a popsicle stick in and repeat the process.

      With a fresh handle it's a very strong joint. As the wood gets old and starts to break down, this is what happens. First sign that you will be buying a new handle.

      @ai6yr @ATLeagle I’ve done that and also driven a screw through it. More for spite than as an actual solid fix. But it seems to hold.

      @ATLeagle Ha! Indeed, they are only pressure fit together.

      I have fixed things like that before by shoving the thing back in and lightly tapping on the outside collar with a hammer until it is wedged in there again. (which is only a temporary fix, of course).

      @ATLeagle

      If the wood inside the ferrule is rotten:

      Cut the ferrule back to good wood.

      Drill a hole roughly the diameter of the width of the tang so the corners of the tang have something to bite into when you hammer the fork back in.

      For anyone who stumbles on this in the future, this actually work. Its half of a clothes pin, because its tapered. I set it with the tang, beat the fork back into the handle, then hammered the pin until it wouldn't go any further and fell to bits.

      The pitchfork works again

      @ATLeagle ... and you didn't even need to disable DRM or anything. Well done.
