    This morning in Minneapolis:

Somebody posted in one of the local chats that their neighbor didn’t come home last night, looking for help finding them. Family doesn’t know where they are. They’d been taking the legal path to seek asylum. ICE doesn’t have their name (but that means very little; they hide names, kidnap anonymously, even discard people’s IDs).

Meanwhile, confirmed ICE sightings are ramping up in my area now after some relative early morning quiet.

Just in case you wondered how things are going here.

If something is “de-escalated” in Minneapolis, nobody here can tell.

Meanwhile, Schumer’s much-touted list of demands is (oh, shocker) pathetic weak sauce: “a prohibition on [ICE] wearing masks, the imposition of a code of conduct and independent investigations of violations.”

      …which, like…

      (1) Sure, that would be nice — insufficient, but nice

      (2) DHS already ignore the very clear laws that are on the books; why on earth do you think it would help to have more rules for them to ignore?

      (3) ICE+CBP right now are basically the KKK except with a budget the size of Russia’s military. Decimate that budget or GTFO.

If you are a US voter, your Senator could perhaps stand to hear — again — that Schumer’s list is insufficient and abolishing ICE now has majority support.

Very soon the electoral stuff will become completely useless again, but for a hot minute here, until this budget fight ends and Schumer caves, those calls do help.

It just pisses me off as I keep re-remembering every 5 minutes that Schumer’s sad little list of demands were the negotiation •starting• position that’s going to get watered down.

I’m getting offline for a bit here. Bah.

That’s right. We didn’t say “de-escalate ICE.” We didn’t “supervise ICE.” We didn’t say “give ICE more rules to ignore.”

      We said ICE OUT.

I •know• the world heard us. Now you all can help by •telling• people in power that you heard us. Because they think you didn’t.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io I feel like y'all in Minneapolis have been abundantly clear about what you want, which is "ICE out." Anything less is fucking bullshit. The behavior of Democrats is not any less disgusting just because it is completely unsurprising.

I dropped a line to them this morning it was pretty short, something like: just a reminder as a constituent of my prior communication to you of no funding for DHS still holds, it needs to be dismantled and any necessary government services put in different departments.

@inthehands yeah, same in St. Paul. Yesterday I was in a meeting about ICE defense at work, and one of the attendees was monitoring the situation via Signal as agents surrounded the home of their child's preschool teacher. Monday evening I was sitting on door guard duty at my kid's sports practice as the RRs reported three neighbors abducted a couple blocks away.

      *shudder*

I guess all the de-escalation must be happening in Maplewood or Columbia Heights or something

I am informed that Saint Paul Public Schools is planning temporary remote instruction in three-week long blocks.

Because nobody thinks that things have suddenly gotten better.

@inthehands The deal to fund the government for the year and DHS for only 2 weeks could be genius.

They could literally just walk away from this after the government re-opens and let DHS go unfunded indefinitely.

Minneapolis has also been offering a remote options for a while now. It’s incredibly hard on everyone — teachers, and the kids and families who opt in — but it’s just not safe for a lot of families.

@inthehands Jesus, I'm sorry. For what it's worth, nobody I know thought anything was de-escalated anywhere.
