@inthehands I hope so, because otherwise it's fully imaginary

@inthehands yeah, same in St. Paul. Yesterday I was in a meeting about ICE defense at work, and one of the attendees was monitoring the situation via Signal as agents surrounded the home of their child's preschool teacher. Monday evening I was sitting on door guard duty at my kid's sports practice as the RRs reported three neighbors abducted a couple blocks away.

@inthehands I know, and it was their initial strategy with the DC Guard deployment and the beginning of the whole occupying cities thing, and it was dangerously close to working in terms of public opinion and legislative support. They try to tell us that targets are dangerous gang members, and it turns out they can't actually make people believe that about roofers and preschool teachers, but it's going to take work to make everyone stands firm on no kidnapping or concentration camps for ANYONE

@inthehands My big concern right now is that, since they're not getting any traction with trying to portray immigrants as a danger that they can save us from, they're going to pivot the kidnapping machinery back to targeting homeless people and Black Americans, the everyday fears of the Nextdoor and Facebook groups that neighbors hung out in before they'd ever heard of Signal. If we're not careful, they'll get the local cops back on their side and the block chats back to going along with it.

@inthehands What's been astonishing to me these last couple months is the complete lack of violence by anyone except goons and cops. Given all the controversy about whether people should show up to counterprotest today, I'd guess the crowd included some of the more militant activists in the Cities. But people have been talking themselves and each other through, protecting each other from their own tempers, even when they have no ideological opposition to using force. It's stunning to witness.

@Nonilex It's truly a little shocking to me that this isn't a top news story. Agents trashing a building, making off with people's valuables, and hauling naked children into the backs of UHauls? We used to accuse the media of being sensationalist, but they're evidently too defeated even to report on a genuine sensation these days.

@aral @fkamiah17 This is NOT confirmed. Hoffman's niece has posted that he and his wife are expected to recover. No word on Hortman that I'm aware of.

@inthehands I think "Trump folded" is one aspect of what happened, but I also think that a core pattern in his M.O. is: declare a crisis, cancel most of the crisis, claim credit for averting the crisis, rake in the concessions. That's a big part of how he degrades reality; each canceled crisis tricks us into accepting some level of damage that never gets undone.

@inthehands I'm not certain that anything happened per se. My impression is that Biden never entertained the idea of denying material support to the Israeli campaign or being anything less than on Israel's side, but he also felt the need (possibly for both political and conscience-salving reasons) to make a token disavowal of the atrocities that the Israeli leadership had already declared the intention to commit. Which has pretty much been the line he's continued to walk.
