Why do NTs apologize for an error that isn't theirs? I overheard my roommate answer the door, a delivery guy. He had the wrong place, it wasn't ours. She apologized... for being the wrong house?
I don't get it.

@ity Yeah, and it makes no sense. They have a whole code book. It includes that bullshit thing where if they offer part of their food, you're supposed to decline, but if they insist, you can have some. Um, no. If I don't want to share my snack, I'm not offering. Offer me food I want, and I'm going to eat it. Like, ffs, just communicate plainly and we won't have problems! NTs are fucking crazy.
@hellomiakoda NTs have this like, code thing
@sofiav This non-apology sorry thing makes no sense either, and I simply parrot it cause people get really mad if I don't say it when someone has died. Like, why am I sorry? I didn't kill them!
It has never made any sense.
....How TF nobody know I was autistic for so long?!
@hellomiakoda it's probably not the "I apologize" type of "I'm sorry" but more the "I feel bad for you" type of "I'm sorry" because the situation is inconvenient for the delivery person
God, imagine...
Person hearing about someone's murder: "Oh my god, I'm so sorry!"
Nearby detective: "Hey wait a minute... What are you sorry for? Hmmmm???!!" *taking out cuffs*
@sofiav That's usually what I say.
This reminds me of my frustration with the word "love".
I loved my ex gf.
I love my cat.
I love my PlayStation.
I love my best friend.
I love my sister.
All the same word, yet it'd be really fucked up to interchange them!
@hellomiakoda other languages have different words for these different situations, but modern English has kind of mashed them all into "sorry", so I see how it's kind of confusing. Like, you could say "my condolences" if someone died, but that sounds too formal nowadays 🤷♀️
@ity "It's literally the worst thing of all time"
@hellomiakoda yea, there's also the thing where they will use "X is bad" as code for "I dislike X", use the adjective "objectively" as just emphasis, a bunch of complex-ass systems for exchanging information purely as subtext of nonsensical exchanges...
I can more or less pull off this language cuz I studied it for 8 years, but like, this shit is so awful
@N But it's not her fault, she didn't do it
@N This makes little sense
@hellomiakoda @sofiav hence why context is so important. And why language is so hard for Autists. You are literally blind to half (or more) of the context.
