     @sicp@freebeerextremist.com @goonusoftware@birb.space Most permissive licenses are very close to CC0 but with a few key differences that are honestly not a bad idea. Like for example having to retain the original copyright notice is alright because it at least gives credit to the original author.
     
     I do use permissive licenses sometimes, but only on small trivial projects that anyone could put together in a single evening, like my "gotobed" program.
     
     But on any project that has a significant size and requires multiple months of work to achieve, like my "Libre-PL2" program for example, I will obviously the GPLv3-or-later to ensure users will always have freedom when they use it.

     @SuperDicq @goonusoftware I support GPL but I think if you have a good reason to make something permissive you should just make it public domain/cc0, anything else is just performative

This is one of the main issues of the copyright system where an work is "all rights reserved" by default and any permission has to be implicitly granted. I wish it was different as well.

     That's what I mean by performative, it's fine to give credit but it turns it from a courtesy into a legal song and dance, for something that makes no actual difference. Oh it's my legal duty to attach a notice to this 10 line shell script, like who cares? I'd rather just have nothing on it, but that's my preference.

     I am doing it, cause in legalese it says that it forces you to do something, while CC0 is just the equivalent of saying "do what you want" for people who live in ass-backwards places without a concept of public domain. I'd just as soon throw the legal stuff in the trash, but it's a courtesy for those aformentioned people, and I don't have to think about it afterward: no one from bumfucktown is gonna try and force their broken laws on me, nor does anyone have to care if someone wrote my name on something.
