I knew something was fishy when they tried to get everyone to switch from saying "child porn" to "CSAM" and I think I'm starting to see what.

In many countries you can get arrested for playing forbidden video games - it's just that such kind of forbidden games are generally only run outside of public view.

Legal status of fictional pornography depicting minors
Legal frameworks around fictional pornography depicting minors vary depending on country and nature of the material involved. Laws against production, distribution, and consumption of child pornography generally separate images into three categories: real, pseudo, and virtual. Pseudo-photographic child pornography is produced by digitally manipulating non-sexual images of real minors to make pornographic material (for example, deepfake pornography). Virtual child pornography depicts purely fictional characters, including drawn (for example, lolicon manga) or digitally (AI) generated. "Fictional pornography depicting minors", as covered in this article, includes these latter two categories, whose legalities vary by jurisdiction, and often differ with each other and with the legality of real child pornography. Some analysts have argued whether or not cartoon pornography that depicts minors is a victimless crime. Laws have been enacted to criminalize "obscene images of children, no matter how they are made", typically under the belief that such materials may incite real-world instances of child sex abuse. Currently, countries that have made...

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love That's true. The entire game is a legal loophole because the characters are "18" and she's not really your sister, but "only pretending". And also all the outfit options based on other fictional characters are fine because it's just "cosplay".

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love And yes I'm trying to collect all versions of PL2 that I can find, mostly for archivist reasons.

There are a few modded versions of the game that include the so called "loli-mode", but funnily enough this is not even a different character model, it is literally the same character model with a different animation set that simply scales all of their body parts down to loli proportions.

      @SuperDicq @pettanko I don't like python, but it is a free language.

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love I love/hate Python. I like writing it because I find its syntax quite pleasing to write and navigate in general. But I hate it's interpreter performance and also its import system and terrible package management.

I@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @pettanko I hate writing python as its syntax and functions are terrible - making it difficult to do things that would be trivial in C.

How the indentation is part of the syntax makes it painful to navigate.

It does have terrible performance and only gentoo ebuild's properly package it.

@a1ba @SuperDicq @pettanko You indent with tabs and then 2 spaces.

@SuperDicq @Suiseiseki @pettanko and you better not, it tells nonsense things like indenting with four spaces.

@a1ba@suya.place @Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love I have not read PEP-8. I simply format my code in the way that I like think looks best. It's probably inconsistent in some places, I have not checked.

I did make an emacs function to format all my imports nicely tho.

@Suiseiseki @SuperDicq @pettanko dunno how indentation can be painful because in most other languages you, hopefully, do indent your code.

Though PEP-8 lovers can burn in hell. Some pythonists follow it religiously but the document really says it's for standard library.

@a1ba@suya.place @Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love I'm usually a four spaces guy, but the original OPL2 project used tabs so I decided to keep this convention and also used tabs in my rewrite of the project.

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @pettanko@tsundere.love But I am still thinking about taking the solid core components this game engine and turning it into a generic game engine for 3D visual novels.

But I'm still deciding that if I end up doing that if I should keep doing it in Python or if I should switch to something else.

Unfortunately if I would switch to another language the most obvious candidate would be C++, because first and foremost it is the only other language compatible with Panda3D and C++ also often what professional game developers are most familiar with.

But maybe sticking to Python would be the right choice, as Python is probably one of the most approachable languages for solo or small game developers which will likely be the target audience for a game engine like this.

Just thinking about how to make this project useful for the most amount of people.

@SuperDicq @pettanko C++ projects tend to become uncompileable and writing C++ is a complete mess - ironically python is much cleaner for this sort of thing - as a game developed with little programming skills can copy-paste some example python scripts and start editing them straight away, rather than having to deal with C++ compiler errors.

@pettanko the tone lmao, what a pathetic faggot. Organizations like NCMEC suck for a different reason (not letting hosters use their recognition database, harassing hosters, not caring nearly enough). Whining about muh tax dollars when you're talking about detecting child porn is hilariously obvious pedofaggot bullshit
