People who had a DVD player early on 1997-2000 era.
What movies did it come with? Mine came with Pi, Fallen Down and Armageddon, whereas my wife only had Pi and Armageddon with hers.

@mattl your DVD player came with Pi? Wow, that's an obscure one (that every mathy/nerdy person should watch) and I'm jealous
@adamhotep The lead actor also appears in @2600's "Freedom Downtime" being interviewed about the terrible Kevin Mitnick movie that thankfully never got much of a release.
@TerryHancock November 1996 in Japan, April 1997 in the US but DVD-ROM was around the same time in Europe first. Around summer 1997 was when I started seeing the discs and maybe a few years later before I got one. Pi wasn’t out until 1998 for example.
Also, was 1997 REALLY when DVD players first came out? It feels like it's been longer! 😅
It's become kind of a tradition in my family that the first movie we get in any new format is "Forbidden Planet".
I think I have had that on CED disk, VHS, and DVD. I don't think I ever got the Blu-Ray, though.
My parents LOVED "Forbidden Planet", and I guess I'm pretty fond of it, too.
@TerryHancock Oh wow. CED.
@xan really was.
@mattl fucking Pi??? as their introduction to a new media format??? incredible
@TerryHancock I know about it mostly from my late 1990s obsession with the Colecovision.
@mattl
Yeah. It was a thing. For awhile. In the 80s. 🤷♂️
Cheaper than laserdiscs. But also kind of crappier.
I have CED disc skips embedded in my consciousness. I rewatch movies from that era, and brace for the skip, even when it's not going to happen, because it's a different medium.
@mattl I don't recall mine coming with any movies. I didn't know this was a thing.
@stinerman In the UK a lot of people I knew bought this.

50 movies with a player, promoted by TV host Jeremy Beadle (who had a few TV shows about camcorders and filmmaking)
