   I am very annoyed by this, BUT it might make EV pricing less terrible. That's still a ton more car for your money than you'd get in America, assuming they aren't complete garbage.

     @Zeb That price difference though... It might be worth "renting" the battery and earning interest on the money you would pay for the difference assuming it gets you a new battery every X years or whatever. Basically would need to see the battery replacement cost.

     @MCMLXVIIOTG @Zeb Right, and can we realistically expect batteries to last over ten years? I'd say no. Then you factor in general longevity and the fact that either a tech advancement (they are always "ten years away 😇") or the chance of a straight up new vehicle. It's kind of an interesting concept.

     @BowsacNoodle I'd personally bet against this and just wait for the prices of LiFePO4 to drop even more honestly. Automakers will have to stop price gouging at some point.
     And I think it's the wrong question to ask if it's cheaper than a civic. This thing weighs 5 tons dude.
     And 125 dollars of battery rental puts you 22k in the hole after 15 years, that doesn't sit right with me

     I agree. Most of the automotive "news" is just thinly veiled marketing. I am constantly fed stuff like this because I follow the economics of EV and energy for reasons.

     I'm assuming they give you a new one when it falls below e.g. 70% capacity. That's piece of mind to me. Plus the average length of ownership of EVs in the US is probably low. We don't have a huge sample size, but I would bet it's substantially lower than ICE, strictly because DIY maintenance DIY is near impossible (this is an issue that right to repair should address).

     You couldn't pay me enough to use Chink tech. My customers use SunGrow inverters which are a pain to work on bc chinks don't want to share IP. We get pixelated photos in shitty manuals to work from.

     That's basically the 25k in the hole. If the battery is of any sort of quality, it'll take a long ass while to reach 70% of max SoC.
     You could buy the whole damn civic with that.
     I am really skeptical about all this rental shit. And it's not a good look either.
     They should just get the prices down. They shouldn't have greedflated 'em in the first place.
