I don't try it yearly, but I give it an honest shot every once in a while. It really cripples my workflow though, so I'm hoping Xlibre does succeeded. i3/X11 just work so well compared to Sway/Hyprland:
@Spooke@eris@EdBoatConnoisseur@DarkMahesvara@Suzu Stopped being Open in the old sense the moment projects started to ask for your 'real' email and 'real' name and how your merge request under xXxGermoidCoderManxXx will be ignored. For myself, I have a yearly event to see if Wayland will forgive my display sins and work properly. Next year I'm sure that 5th time will be the charm! :kek:
@eris@EdBoatConnoisseur@DarkMahesvara@Suzu I just see it at this point as if wayland was truly supposed to beat x11, why did they need to spend 2-3 years suppressing merge requests, and when someone decides to do a hard fork they became super hostile and straight up banned x11libre from freedesktop. If you make a better FOSS project wouldn't you win by just making a better project?
The behaviour just makes me think of how any project with enough libshits starts becoming censorious and banning people for not believing in their religion. Are we even open anymore?
@Suzu@EdBoatConnoisseur@eris it will stay in the repo as long as other projects and people use it. you pissing on the wrong tree here. complain about the projects like plasma and gnome for removing x11 support.
x11 will probably live on for decades if not by itself than in xwayland (also forks).
@Suzu@eris@EdBoatConnoisseur what do you mean "going to wayland" by default there is nothing pre installed (thats the whole point of arch) but its in the repo like x11 and every other x11 DE/WM.
@eris@EdBoatConnoisseur Arch is going to Wayland too, isn't it? I mean, Arch + Hyprland/Sway is a pretty common combination, and as far as I understand, both window managers are Wayland-only.
@EdBoatConnoisseur to think that I lived through two changes in the Linux display server. I remember back when they were replacing XFree86 with Xorg, everyone hated Xorg too. Including me, because there was a lot of shit I had that didn't work correctly with Xorg and it was pretty frustrating to use, and everything became unbearable when every distro stopped shipping XFree86.
And again, I don't follow tranny dev drama, but it seems a lot of projects are moving to Wayland right now and starting to ditch Xorg.
There's no pasuspend for pipewire and I like using AC3/DTS/TrueHD pass through on my home theater PC. I know there's a way to get Pipewire to allow raw digital pass though, but everything looked so complicated I just had a script that does a killall -9 pipewire before running env ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 mpv --ao=alsa --audio-spdif=ac3,eac3,dts-hd,truehd --vo=gpu-next --target-colorspace-hint --gpu-api=vulkan --gpu-context=waylandvk so I get digital audio and HDR.
