I was challenged recently on the translation to which I subscribe of Revelation 1:6. I hold to the KJV and YLT which both say "kings and priests" as opposed to the more (and more recently) popular "kingdom of priests" or "kingdom, priests". In comparing Rev. 1:6 with 5:10 and thr phrasibg of 1 Peter 2:9, the passage is clearly suggesting we, Christians, are given both ruling and sacerdotal authority and responsibility. Thus, "kings and priests" is appropriate and not to be dismissed as a proper translation.
Thoughts?

βασιλείαν does not mean "kings" as in the person of rulership; in fact, the noun is not plural in the verse. This configuration is consistent among the manuscripts. The modern translation of "kingdom, priests" is correct.

Yeah, I understand that, but translating it as "kingdom" implies that we are merely the subjects when the other passages I cited suggest we have a measure of royal authority and responsibility.

@lykanthrocide @King_Noticer @SuperLutheran @SuperSnekFriend @flux_the_cat Douay Rheims has kingdom of priests as well.
Rev 5:9-10 (DRB)
>And they sung a new canticle, saying: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the book, and to open the seals thereof; because thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God, in thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation. >10And hast made us to our God a kingdom and priests, and we shall reign on the earth.
Rev 20:6 in KJV (and very similar in every other translation) support the notion of priest but also the word "reigning" is used. Given the role of a priest in hierarchy, I think it's fair to say there's some measure of authority rather than subjugation. Ultimately it's authority from God for His glory.
>Rev 20:6 (KJV) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

@lykanthrocide @BowsacNoodle @King_Noticer @SuperSnekFriend @flux_the_cat I'd say I agree with the ESV rendering of it, but Rev.1:6 cannot be separated from 1Pet.2:9 either way so translation methods are kinda moot here to me
