@ceo_of_monoeye_dating That is how the airport is.
Here's a map. Note that if you have an itinerary planned, it will probably be entirely within the No-Go Zone; I don't recommend. Good luck.

Haha I got to post the default message meaningfully. :konata_happy:
I understand why everyone here believes there is no God. He is undeniably not present here.

@p I have a very limited itinerary planned which has run out due to me having acquired what I need.
I'm now sorta stuck without stuff to do for 3 days. 🤷

Holy goddamn fuck. Three days to kill in LA, I have suggestions. (I'd help out myself if I was still there.) Maybe you have ideas what you'd like to do, let me know, this is some generic shit off the top of my head.
You see that map? Go down to Torrance, run around the weeb-friendly zones, buy video games from a place where the staff is all cosplayers, get some *real* ramen, get some curry rice, the good food is gonna be near the Japanese-heavy office buildings. Hit Little Tokyo, great shit there, too. Go get some really great Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley or just wander around, like, drive up and down Valley Blvd or Garvey and it's like Blade Runner with no rain if you do it at night. If you spot a King Taco, go inside it, get a suadero burrito and three buche tacos (or carnitas tacos if buche scares you) with red sauce on the side. You see a place that has a hot pastrami, get a hot pastrami. If you don't have a car that you have to park somewhere, you could do worse than burgers and knocking back a few bloody marys at the Bank of Venice in Venice Beach; if you're closer to Pasadena, Congregation Ale House; if you're closer to Silverlake, Thirsty Crow has some nice whiskey and you can appreciate some irony of kids in designer clothes buying expensive whiskey while 80s punk rock comes out the speakers. Go buy a piece in Riverside and then take it to the ranges in Burbank or the LAX shooting range. If there's a girl with you, take her to the Redondo Beach Pier if you want a chill time or the Santa Monica Pier if you hate her and are willing to endure torment in order to watch her suffer. You can possibly hop a boat to Catalina but expect this to eat 24-36 hours. Greatest city for live music, you can even find a show worth seeing on a Monday night, and the weather's probably ideal right about now, won't be all sweaty inside even if it's a little venue.

@p Thanks for the map. I guess I'll go get chinese food and find some touristy things to do in that blue circle.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating Blue circle is definitely my favorite spot. Depends on what you wanna do, though.

@kakafarm @ceo_of_monoeye_dating Ha, I felt like it was a really short version. Like, I didn't even mention Angel City Brewing; about 20 years ago, they relaxed some of the requirements that came with brewing that have been in place since the Prohibition and that have created the giant brewery oligarchy, right, and as of five or ten years ago, the breweries that popped up right after that went away, there are some really good ones that have been in the game a minute. It's probably not gonna be a surprise that San Diego has more good breweries than LA but LA has some pretty great ones. Most of them have decent food, and the ones that don't have decent food *all* have at least one cart outside with either tacos or danger dogs (listed as "Tijuana" style on the guide).

@kakafarm @ceo_of_monoeye_dating Shit, while I'm on the topic, random-ass taco carts are often pretty amazing if you know what to look for: that is a giant hunk of marinated pork turning on a spit, gyros style. If you see that, buy some tacos al pastor.

@p I think Torrance is a little outside of my range, but Little Tokyo and San Gabriel Valley are reasonable shots. I'm *generally* very uptight about alcohol, but given how abhorrent the task at hand for me is I think I shall partake for the first time in years - I have come to LA for the purposes of preparing magic to eliminate a memory of mine, and the alcohol may steel me.

@p @kakafarm Oh I've seen that, and I can get that tomorrow. I'm on it.

> Little Tokyo and San Gabriel Valley are reasonable shots.
Oh, man. So, Hama in Little Tokyo, but they're closed Sundays and I think Mondays? Great sushi, like really great, and won't break the bank. SGV, try Chili King, it's on Valley, if Sichuan No. 1 has reopened then try that place. The hotpot places are great but definitely, like, do Chinese hotpot, guagua beats shabushabu; see pictures.
Lotta really good noodle places. If you want some excellent Japanese ramen, Shinsengumi; there'll be a line if you go too late in the evening, there's a line at *all* of them, there are like four locations, definitely worth it. If there are enough people with you, split an order of gyoza and they have some deep-fried softshell crab, great stuff. Obviously the noodles are amazing, the stock is amazing.
I think the Stuffed Sandwich on Las Tunas is closed but if it is open, do yourself a favor. Otherwise, there are like a million great greasy-spoon pastrami burger places: Tops (but Tops changes a lot by location).
There are about a million really nice tea places in the 626, they all have wifi and a lot of them have either Metal Slug or couches; depends. I hear Zephyr in Pasadena on Colorado has reopened, coffee shop near PCC, they used to have Middle Eastern snacks and hookahs.
You wanna do some touristy shit, the Huntington Library is a massive arboretum (you will definitely at *least* get a handjob if you take a girl) with a museum and a lot of cool shit. I think JPL tours are weekends only. If you don't hate hiking and nature shit, then there's plenty of that; I don't know where to go, though, I always got dragged to those things and my main concern was finding a place to put cigarette butts, usually a water bottle or something.
> I have come to LA for the purposes of preparing magic to eliminate a memory of mine,
This is ominous.
I saw someone post some, like, it was an anime girl with three heads and this made me wonder if, in your case, three heads means one eye per head or one eye total, all three heads.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating Speaking of Tea Places, but a bag of loose leaf from Ten Ren, and there's, like, at Valley and something, there's a Ten Ren with a place called Tea Station attached and it's great and I can't remember the address, like, it's in the front of this giant plaza with jewelers and seafood places and a grocery store, right, but the problem is I got distracted because while I was looking at the map I found a place called "Uncle Juice" and I couldn't stop laughing.

@p @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @kakafarm German hotdog isn't a technically a hotdog. Its a Bratwurst, some mashed potatoes and a hate filled concoction invented by professor Haber. Not even cloves and juniper berries can make that stuff delicious.

@p Because it's interesting, but because this is probably very far outside your set of interests:
I've noticed that a lot of the magic shops here are VERY well stocked with oils. Essential oils are definitely a thing, but also burnt oils for offerings are a big deal here too. That's suspicious - burning oils to a home shrine *tends* to be a Santa Muerte practice, which is associated with cartels.
Other than that, Freemasonry is...huge here. It has taken me almost no time at all to find them, they have a massive library here which is...insanely impressive, and stocked with very rare books. The librarians are excellent, and they have the ability to point a seeker in the direction of anything they could ever hope to study. There are reading groups and classes, and the topics are obviously great. The education one can get from this is obviously superior to an undergraduate degree in Philosophy. Unfortunately...the library's only open two days a week, both of which are weekdays, and it's timed during a normal workday. Typical Masonry.

@p Magic that's not associated with Masonry or Cartels is rare in LA it seems. I am glad to be on the positive side of the freemasons, even if I am not myself a mason.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating The Random Number God has a sense of humor; guess what came on when I read this message.
> burning oils to a home shrine *tends* to be a Santa Muerte practice,
Well, a lotta gypsies, shit like that, but you know there are just regular Santa Muerte shrines, like, around? I drove by a Santa Muerte church. You don't have to say "This is a sign that there are Santa Muerte dudes", there are Santa Muerte dudes. Half the taco stands I go to, like, Carnitas Michoacan (excellent place for carnitas, open 24 hours), El Taco Man in El Monte (great, but also across the street from some acoustic-guitar reconquista Mexican snake-handling church), dudes with the right hand tats get free tacos.
The thing that pisses me off is they're growin' weed in the national parks, shooting at botany undergrads and getting pesticides in the water table.
> Other than that, Freemasonry is...huge here.
Oh, yeah, lots of them.
> The education one can get from this is obviously superior to an undergraduate degree in Philosophy.
Oh, that's pretty cool.

@p I get the distinct sense that this is a place I wouldn't want to live for an extended period of time, even ignoring money.
There's a lot of people who seem to have cool skills and you can learn from them, but there's nothing actually uniquely good about this place unless you want access to a specific resource or skill.
I will say that what I've had of the cuisine is...as someone who has traveled a decent amount, I've had better American, Thai, Italian, Mexican, and Chinese. I have not been able to get all four of those foods of similar quality in the same place, but I have been able to find better of each food somewhere in the US. I've had better Thai and Italian in New York. I've had better Mexican in Texas. I've had better Chinese in a few university towns (but this was only ever due to having the right connection).
Weirdly, the coffee here is slightly bad. Lefties are supposed to be known for good coffee, and I'm kind of shocked at how bad it is here. It's far from the worst I've had, but I have actually had better in small rural towns.
I am not someone who enjoys the type of entertainment LA has, and I will be glad to leave it. I got what I came for and I'm glad to have succeeded at this, but seeing no pleasure in remaining and seeing the cost of staying, I will be extremely glad to leave and come back only to complete any task I set myself to.
I will make sure that my travel plans are tighter to minimize my time here next time. I will say that I have significantly more respect for the location now than I did before coming, but I do not like it here.

It's fine. I like it.
> I have been able to find better of each food somewhere in the US.
There is 0% chance that you've found better Chinese food in the US. This is a shenanigan. I don't know what you meant about "connections" but basically I have lived in a Chinesey neighborhood for 20 years, I've had "didn't realize that I was getting dragged along to this 'family dinner' in order to boost the numbers" Chinese food, I've had "If I knew this was going to be a wedding, I wouldn't have worn jeans" Chinese food, I've had "What do you mean your *husband* is back? Did he see my car? Bring my shoes to the back door while I find my pants...oh, also thanks for the dumplings." Chinese food, man.
The thing with New York (FUCK NEW YORK) is that the Chinese food there is the SF-Canto style. Zero exceptions. Every time I have had food from some Chinese place in New York (FUCK NEW YORK) it was some bullshit place that only knows starch+stirfry, the kind of place that thinks "soy sauce ketchup" is a condiment.
> I've had better Mexican in Texas.
I have, I think, spent more time in Texas than you have in Los Angeles. LA Mexican food is Baja California style, Texas is the other side of Mexico, the food's different.
> I've had better Thai and Italian in New York.
Italian is basically impossible to get in LA. San Diego has good Italian, there's a place called Civico? Best Italian I have had in my life and FUCK NEW YORK.
The Thai food in Thai town is better than anything I had in New York and FUCK NEW YORK.
> the coffee here is slightly bad. Lefties are supposed to be known for good coffee,
It's not a lefty place. Look at the voter turnout; it's an apolitical place. The SGV, there are more guns in the dumpling zone than in the entire city of Austin, I'm sure.
Anyway, yeah, the cofe isn't great in LA. It's a tea city, not a cofe city.
> I am not someone who enjoys the type of entertainment LA has,
I thought you liked anime and video games. (Anyone that doesn't like music is lying.)
> cost of staying,
I can't argue with that. It's been fucked, people keep voting for these stupid fucking mayors from SF. They don't even go here. And those guys keep trying to remake LA because they think that making a big enough name for yourself as mayor of LA will get you to the presidency, and it won't, not ever. The shit a mayor has to do in order to get anything done is shit that precludes you getting anywhere with a hostile press.
> I will say that I have significantly more respect for the location now than I did before coming, but I do not like it here.
It's not for everyone. I don't wanna go out of my way to convince a person to spend more time in LA, I think there's already too many fuckin' people, but anyway, even I'm not there for now, and it's my favorite place on earth.
