I generally translate all such terms to the single word "misandry". The wombynz can come up with whatever creative disparagements they like, but end of the day it all comes down to "misandry".

        Bro culture
Bro culture is an American subculture of young people (originally young men, hence "brother culture") who spend time partying with others like themselves. Although the original image of the bro lifestyle is associated with sports apparel and fraternities, it lacks a consistent definition. Most aspects vary regionally, such as in California, where it overlaps with surf culture. It often refers to a culture of machismo but sometimes also a darker "hyper masculinity" including "binge drinking, sexism, rape culture". Oxford Dictionaries have noted that bros frequently self-identify with neologisms containing the word "bro" as a prefix or suffix. Etymology and history Bro was originally an abbreviated form of the word brother but began to assume non-familial connotations in the 20th century. In this evolution, it was first used to refer to another man, such as a "guy" or "fellow". In these ways, it was semantically similar to the use of "brother". In the 1970s, bro came to refer to a male friend rather than just another man. The word became associated with young men who spend time partying with others like themselves. Oxford...

@toiletpaper @sun both of you are retarded for different reasons. i've always seen it, and used it to, refer to people (not categorically males, just happens to be more males that fit this archetype) who have a superficial interest in tech with no actual business to interject in conversations where actual intelligent technical discussion is taking place.

the idea that it's anything close to misandry is retarded, and so is the idea that fraternities exhibit any sort of real culture.

        Brogrammer
"Brogrammer" or "tech bro" are slang terms for stereotypically masculine programmers. Brogrammer is a portmanteau of bro and programmer. It is often used pejoratively to describe toxic masculinity and sexism in the technology industry, but some programmers self-describe themselves as a brogrammer positively as a word for "sociable or outgoing programmer", and it also tends to represent a subculture within the greater tech industry. An example sometimes cited of targeted advertising toward "brogrammers" is an early (before 2012) Klout hiring advert posted at a Stanford University career fair as "Want to bro down and crush some code? Klout is hiring." The company later described it as a joke and as an unfortunate misstep. Brogrammer culture has been said to have created an entry barrier based on adherence to the image presented by its participants, rather than ability. It can be viewed as antithetical to geek culture, which emphasizes ability and passion for field over image. @sun @wowaname @toiletpaper to me it refers to people with surface level knowledge in tech that are in it for the money and pretending to innovate and little else. usually people get this right but some are brainless users of that buzz word, they're faggots and should be shot

@wowaname I think the concept of machismo has stood the test of time, it exists outside of just pejorative articles by a clique of writers

@sun meh it refers to an existing (mostly latino) concept called "machismo" and i definitely see it describing a certain demographic. whether i'd call it much of a culture than an attitude, though, that's another thing

@wowaname @meso did you know that the term metrosexual was literally just a word that a writer thought sounded cool and tried to see if they could get words into popular media solely through the word sounding catchy, not even the wikipedia article knows that the term was a total psyop. wiki is shit

@sun again i never see it refer to anything, so idk whom you hang around who uses the phrase wrong. how @meso describes it is mostly how i use it and see it used, overlapping the term "reply guy" heavily since they often exhibit that behaviour which ends up getting them called out. they could be less obnoxious and lurk moar around the people who get real work done
