     There are various providers to host your own #XMPP domain or your own complete #Jabber server.

     E.g. #conversations (same people as the Android client, i.e. @daniel) or #Snikkett by @snikket_im and many more.

     The former is based on #Ejabberd by @ejabberd, the latter on #Prosody by @prosodyim.

     Olha aí, que legal.. se conhecerem algum provedor de VPS, hospedagem Web ou o que seja, que forneça, digamos, máquinas pré-preparadas (templates) com #YunoHost #GNU/Linux, soluciona-se boa parte da charada para quem quiser um servidor #XMPP sem aprender muito da (ainda que seja mínima) infraestrutura necessária. :takeMyMoney:
     
     Mas, de fato, como bem lembrou @lxo@snac.lx.oliva.nom.br, desde que haja demanda suficiente, logo alguém ofertará um serviço especializado de criação e manutenção de servidores XMPP. Assim como, por exemplo, surgiu com o tempo um ou outro provedor de "instâncias" de microblog ActivityPub.

     thanks for the recommendations, they look promising! I was vaguely aware of @daniel@gultsch.social's service with conversations, but I wasn't sure that would include running servers for customers on customers' own infrastructure. I had also heard of @snikknet_im@fosstodon.org but I don't know pretty much anything about their service. my main concern is ensuring the customers remain autonomous and independent, rather than vulnerable to enshittification, lock-in, and having their data and contacts made hostages. I don't suppose these service providers would engage in such low practices, but I've realized that services by third parties on third party's premises are always one acquisition away from submitting users and customers to all these problems, and the only way to avoid attracting such predators is by keeping customers in freedom, allowing them to pack the software and data and take it with them wherever they wish, earning their trust and business day after day.

     AFAIK, #Conversations offers domain hosting on their #ejabberd. I.e. they could (in theory) grab all your metadata, sell it, and send you daily reminders to buy #MobileCoin from them. However, as you own your domain, you could export your data ("XEP-0227: Portable Import/Export Format for XMPP-IM Servers") and move elsewhere. Also, Conversations is hosted in the #EU, i.e. #GDPR applies until #FriedrichMerz kills it.
