When you're considering purchasing a new product or service and you have to think: do I stick with a company that already spies on every other aspect of my life and give them even more of my personal data, or do I go with a whole NEW company who can then spy on my life and get a bunch of my personal data?
@JessTheUnstill Then it already is one, if it requires any further interaction with the party who made it after purchase. That's what I mean by disguised.
@keira_reckons@JessTheUnstill@dan I have a fossil one with a bigger display and you can set it to display images or notifications. Like this notification that my cat used the litter box while I was out running.
@irene@keira_reckons@JessTheUnstill yep! I have not had the chance to try any of the smart watch features in any meaningful way because 2025 has been a mess. But despite that, I have still managed to keep it charged... which I would definitely not have done with something that needs to be charged daily
@JessTheUnstill I really like my Withings one, which I chose because it doesn't have internet connection and the data storage is on my phone or in Europe, and the company is German (GDPR for the win).
It sleep tracks, although I don't know if it's any good at that. And does heart rate and steps and has a timer and a stopwatch.
The heart rate is periodical, not constant, but there may be a setting for that.
@keira_reckons@JessTheUnstill second the Withings. I just got one for @dan and I think he’s only charged it two or three times since Christmas. I have one of the Fossil hybrid watches. I like watches that have hands and look like watches.
