Dude I'm sitting on about 16 campaigns worth of worldbuilding in the same universe, then enough notes for at least another 10 campaigns of zombie apocalypses in different punk/time settings. - pistolero likes this.

Well I was gonna do family TTRPGs with it, but then covid happened and the $2k fucking gaming table I bought became something to stack random shit on. Didn't even end up buying chairs for it. I managed to get a session 0 done before a coworker buddy I was gonna DM for left for a state with legal weed.
It's a disjointed mess that only really makes sense to me, as I've been working on it in some form for the better part of 2 decades now, but you're welcome to read through some of it if you want. Maybe I'll try and run it for an online group sometime 🤷🏻♂️pistolero likes this. -

Game design is tough. It takes a lot of test playing to see what works and what doesn't. What makes sense and what doesn't. Getting it in front of more eyes and taking feedback is never a bad idea. I think right now is an ideal time as there is a void in the RPG space since all the big names went woke and suck ass now.

Mine's basically a dark fantasy/cosmic horror at it's core, the embodiment of the abyss is trying to reconstruct itself from the previous armageddon and consume everything before the next. 3 main campaigns, the third being the sabotaged apocalypse where the players are the horsemen who are trying to complete the rebirth ritual before everything is absorbed into nothingness. Then there's planar mini campaigns against different cosmic entities somewhat aligned with the abyss, mostly just how each plane was corrupted by the eternal war with more emphasis on the behind the scenes factions. Because they only have minor roles in the main 3 campaigns.
The zombie ones are mostly just sandboxes in different settings, 3 initial faction choices civilian/infected/group trying to exploit the infection. Most of those are just notes on time scale and evolution/reactions to things etc.pistolero likes this. -

started worldbuilding and digging into my project the other day. one of my own goals was to make it feel like a plausible, "holy shit this -could- happen" type of universe and be able to expand upon it all.
would be interested to see some your guys' works sometime or whatever. 👍🏻 -

This one's never gonna be commercial, I've got a couple of ideas for that though. There's a boardgame I wanna make in particular, seems fairly easy to do but it's still a time/resource sink and I get distracted. pistolero likes this. -

I used a lot of tropes designing it, then RNG'd them to see how prevalent they would be from total subversion to going balls deep. It's a creation of my warped mind, so yeah "unique" works lol. Started with a general concept then homebrewing new races/subraces and then worked out how the genetic/stat differences would make them view each other etc, and built each world's history up from there with RNG. I started it as a dark fantasy story/creative outlet, I was inspired by dragonlance (mostly how it was RNG based, that appealed to me as it limits the effect of my own biases on the story) and then at some point Doll suggested I convert it into a game setting. It's become very very bloated, and I've written over a lot of it a bunch. Got like 5 contradicting versions of greenskins that need to be condensed, shit like that lol. pistolero likes this. -

Yeah, I wanted the story to be interesting to me rather than just have my beliefs seeping into it. Some of that's always going to be unavoidable but I love the idea that even my main characters, now key NPCs, could get wiped out immediately and the whole plot just sharply tangents into chaos. pistolero likes this. -

Seeing that you comprehend that your own bias can hurt your game is something very few understand. Many will act like cutting something is akin to chopping off your own child's fingers, but sometimes the kids got to many digits.

Yeah that's a good idea, I'd still need to pick my preferences of different versions I've done first. Hell I still have a big box full of written notes that I have to type up lol. pistolero likes this. -

Sorta like Skyrim with killable npc mod. Hey if you write your story that me killing "ugly shop keep No. 4" breaks your game that's just bad writing.

Exactly yeah you gotta roll with the punches, "yes and" or at least "yes but" is always far more entertaining than "umm akshully you can't do that". What's the fucking point in having a DM if they're just a slow computer, play a vidyagame instead. pistolero likes this. -

That's why I always enjoyed Call of Cuthulu's rule set. Total open world. The Keeper needs to be on their toes and be ready for almost anything or have very convincing reasons why something can't happen.
