I don't know anything about whatever the current drama is, but I do know that people still complain about shit I did years ago, and I have seen it happen to graf. I've seen it happen to all kinds of people around here, r000t and Moon are pretty good examples, and I've seen it happen to people on the other side of fedi. People that want to stir shit up will use whatever they can, real or imagined.

The Beefyboys admins openly discussed doing this kind of thing in order to wreck instances, and I don't think they were unique: there are still plenty of people using any pretext they can. People make shit up, sure, but that's just one nugget in the shit sandwich.

The broader point was the shit-sandwich getting served to everyone that is trying to broaden the place, keep the place comfortable. And of course, there are the German feds pulling this shit; who knows what other countries? No one actually believes that "NAFO" was a grassroots thing.

  I respect his takes on Internet preservation and net neutrality, but with every passing year I find him retarded in an increasing amount of other areas. In a way I think that's alright though, I like that I find many reasons to disagree with those that I follow, I think there'd be something terribly wrong if I followed somebody who I agreed with all the time.

  I've noticed that too. I don't know what changed, I've been tuning into MATI for years and often considered Jersh to have very respectful and informed takes. Nowadays it seems like he's deviated from that reputation somewhat, at least enough for a long time listener like me to notice. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but over the past year I've had less enthusiasm about MATI. I used to tune in enthusiastically, now I still tune in but I'm kinda lukewarm about it and don't pay attention as much during the stream.

Like, part of the reason I did that long-ass freedom of speech blog post was that I kept having to answer the same objections that were based on the lowest-common-Redditor version of what freedom of speech means, and I don't plan to try to defend a strawman against someone that is pushing their own lowest-common-Redditor version of "I hate freedom of speech!" at the internet. The conversation isn't worth having, because it's just a continuation/repeat of some pulled-out-of-the-ass Reddit conversation based on a shallow understanding of the topics. So, like, if I read someone that disagrees with me, I want to read someone that has something to say that makes me think, or at least someone that writes stuff that indicates that they're thinking.

I used to watch a lot and enjoyed it but I stopped for a while, resumed because I wanted to fill some time and keep up with funny stuff, but every week is just more being half informed and his regular crusades against his pet projects and less funny stuff or interesting stuff. he’s a lot more spiteful and hateful than before and it’s really souring. I wish he’d do more interesting stuff like person streams, the deagle nation, foodie beauty, and a couple other ones are still really funny to rewatch because he put a little effort in and put on a really good show. now it’s just annoyance and spite and he ignores or bites back at any genuine criticism so It’ll never change. kind of sad he’s backsliding into what he used to mock

  I think that's why I've been drawn more to Kino Casino over the past year. They like having fun, and maybe it's just out of a cynical sense of putting out content that gets engagement, but it's entertaining regardless.
