  We did that early on, but with beta. Once my dad got his job to comp him, we didn't need to obviously. By the time, VHS took the entire market, they were cheap.

  By the early 1980s, some people were paying around
  $800 for a VCR. This is a memory as Mom paid $800 bucks
  back then ($2,400 now). I'm still amazed by this.
  People wanted so badly to not see shit commercials
  they simply made the investment. She would buy movies
  from the 40/50/60/70's and be happy as a clam,
  after work, at Lockheed. Black Box Dept
