I should try getting another monitor or something. I don't understand why the computer at work doesn't bother me nearly as much, whether it's the monitor or the ergonomics of the setup

doctor might prescribe me beta blockers to help with the headaches. it's what my partner has advocated and what the neurologist I saw over the phone suggested but I'm not so sure. what if they make me stupid

@argr thanks for the advice. migraines aren't actually the main issue I have, it's screen and visual processing intolerance leading to headaches, nausea and eye fatigue. I don't often suffer from the kind of sound/light sensitivity that typically characterize migraines, and don't think I've ever experienced the classic "aura" that people describe. I have doubts that cutting artifical sweeteners would help but maybe it's worth a shot. For the time being I think I'll get my blood tested and talk with my new doctor about what options are available to me. it sounds like she's going to have some diet and exercise regimen which I am going to hate and have a hard time doing because I am NOT a disciplined guy

@Aleums if this is about migraines specifically: it may be worth it to try cutting all zero-calorie sweeteners out of your diet, even if the migraines initially started happening after an unrelated medical event. I did that and my number of migraines immediately went down to almost 0. also might indeed be worth trying those beta blockers tbh, meds have a scary reputation among creatives but honestly they usually help more than they hinder

I don't really have "expensive technical solution that may or may not fix the problem" money at this point though

actually I'm damn sure that it won't. even the eink tablet I got, which is admittedly easier on the eyes, still provokes the same reactions with sufficient use

@ray yeah this is usually what I chalk it up to. I think it's a combination of that, being standing, and the height of the monitor and its distance from my eyes being improved

@Aleums also maybe things to consider are more along the line of your own use and body - how long is continous use without breaks or moving for posture changes at work vs home

@Aleums beta blocker works fantastic for me. No side effects.

Keep up electrolyte intake with water.

Just saying since this was my thing - idk your cannabis consumption rate but it impedes the absorption of electrolytes. I had pain and migraines way before using weed, but heavy use can make it worse instead of treating it. Also both winter and smoke dries sinuses which can increase migraines, make sure to use eyedrops, humidifiers, and try nasal saline gel if thats an issue
