Reports like this from @Geri are hard to verify, seem a bit sus because they’re just so on the nose, could be a bug, could just be some kind of UX fail on FB’s part, but…

…they keep coming in. Longing for some good reporting on this. Hand-waving it away doesn’t cut it anymore. Not now.

Agreed, but you misunderstand me. Here “on the nose” means “likely to provoke a (possibly well-justified!) emotional reaction that makes it more likely to be shared even if it is inaccurate.”
We are going to spend the coming years constantly threading the needle of not inadvertently spreading disinfo because it •seemed• true and while diligently spread shocking info that •is• true.

Do note, however, the detail about following as of Jan 2025. (Does the account switchover reset that date? Seems unlikely.)

The report I saw from a user I trust was that they were following the POTUS account, and it simply switched from being a Biden to Trump account.
Could be more to it, but I remember seeing similar reports on other platforms in the past when the official accounts were handed over to the new administration.
