    I have no idea if this is true -- but if this is, this kind of behavior will frighten businesses much more than luigi will.

      @bronze @matty note that if this is true, I can guarantee there weren't any jews involved in that machine shop, just a fucking boomer looking to squeeze a few more bucks out and with no care to help out the younger generation.

      @feralphilosophernc what is true is that a lot of older big CNC machines are not idiot proof.

      Most aren't even idiot tolerant ( idiot speaking here )

      @BroDrillard I haven't found any reporting on it, so I don't know if it's just a boomer's fantasy story.

      But the way it could happen would be mainly "destroy" for the former being an exaggeration. Maybe he clamped something wrong and blew out a tool post or something that was a specialized part causing the lathe to sit idle until the part comes in. Enough damage that its bad, but enough that they don't can him immediately.

      How was that stinking indian not fired immediately after he destroyed $3 mill worth of equipment? And even allowed to touch the same kind of machine again?

      The only way I can imagine this happening if one indian bought the shop and this lathe wizard was a member of his family.

      @PraxisOfEvil There are oddly still quite a few companies doing this kind of work in places like Ohio and PA. I don't know exactly what kind of contracts they all have. Possibly oil and gas?

      I don't really know what size you have to get to. Only stuff I've touched is things that are like hundreds of grands, as far as I know.

      Firing someone for causing $3 mill damage is a perfectly defensible legal position.

      @egirlyuumimain @BroDrillard for places like this it isn't even the cost of a machine that is the most painful, it's the work stoppage.

      @sickburnbro There are CNC companies around here that are ITAR compliant, which means they have military contracts, the machining specifications are much more stringent, millionths of an inch as opposed to thousands of an inch. I'd imagine they'd use equipment with that kind of price tag.

      @PraxisOfEvil @sickburnbro There are still places using 10EE machines that have been carefully refurbished over the years, as they are the most economical means of reaching dimensional and surface finish requirements.

      @sickburnbro I can’t find any articles resembling that specific kind of factory fire, and I doubt it even happened. The closest I’ve found so far is fire in a metal plant (2023), and the most recent seems to be a packaging factory (3~ days ago)

      If @PraxisOfEvil ‘s guess about it being aerospace and @wingedhussar about the safety systems then maybe it could have been a magnesium alloy fire caused by CNC chips/powder. According to a random wikipedia source: “It is true that magnesium alloys are highly combustible when in a finely divided form, such as powder or fine chips, and this hazard should never be ignored. Above 800 °F (427 °C), a non-combustible, oxygen-free atmosphere is required to suppress burning” (Although there’ll probably have to be another fuck up for a serious fire to occur.)

      Following that thought, there was a fire at a (historic) Wright brothers facotry, but I doubt a historical site that has “has hosted ‘hundreds, if not thousands,’ of people for hard-hat tours” would have such machinery.

      Boomer fantasy.

      @ColonialCoc @PraxisOfEvil @wingedhussar yeah, I spent maybe 30 min searching, and the problem with search engines nowadays is that you almost cannot know if there is not such information on the internet, or if you are just searching wrong.

      Very annoying.
