@TrevorGoodchild @Rasterman @LawrenceGerald sigh, just like all things, people hating bmi for the wrong reasons. I'd rather have caliper data, or at least BIA data

@sickburnbro @Rasterman @LawrenceGerald Unpopular opinion: BMI is actually too forgiving
If you don't lift you can have a BMI of 23-24 (normal) and still look chonky and unhealthy

@TrevorGoodchild @Rasterman @LawrenceGerald But to continue to beat a fat, dead horse - we've found that visceral fat is actually far worse, and so in theory both a caliper and BIA data together would provide a more accurate assessment of that

@Dagnar @ChadleyDudebro @Rasterman @TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro Our doctor has some machine that measures body fat and muscle and factors in your age and sex (you have to pay extra for this scan). I have the exact right amount of body fat, according to it, but need to gain 3 lbs of lean muscle. Husband is a bit chonky but lifts like an absolute beast; his scan says he is merely overweight due to his mass (visible) of lean muscle. It's a work in progress. For him, anyway. I have no intention of trying to increase muscle. As long as I can do my farm chores and wear a single-digit size, I'm happy and so is he.

I really hate to be that guy.
But I am "akshually" that guy.
BMI is 25.6, currently.
Literally no one who sees me irl would describe me as overweight.
I hear "lean" often and sometimes tall skinny.
When I hit the gym and bulk up. My BMI would say I'm obese.

There's gotta be a better measure than BMI. Muscle mass will weigh more than fat.

@LawrenceGerald @Dagnar @ChadleyDudebro @Rasterman @TrevorGoodchild right, the idea of "overweight due to lean muscle" is simply a mis-application of information.
