@stefano something seems a bit strange with the #snac instance: I followed myself now (both directions), and quite some of my own toots on snac don't arrive in my feed here on #mastodon. But when looking at the snac profile from mastodon, I can read them... 🤷
@stefano@zirias it's still a reply; there's a concept of direct mentioning / tagging users that does not require you @ them in the text body. I'm looking at this activity right now and it's definitely addressed right on both the Activity and the inner Note Object and the Note does have Jessienab correctly tagged for a mention...
Yes, it's an answer again, without tagging anyone, but I wonder how that could be related, I mean I'm following this account (myself on the snac instance), not the "random" person I might or might not tag when answering. I'm confused 😂
@zirias maybe it's because snac, by default, doesn't "tag" the person you're writing to (as you can see, the first word of this message is your username). That could be a reason. When using an app like Tusky, this doesn't happen as those app add that on their own
@stefano Hm ... could it be related to whether something is an answer or not? I *think* it was answers I didn't see, and I'm pretty sure (?) Mastodon is showing me answers written by other people I follow. 🤔
@stefano@zirias actually I think I have the answer. It won't show up in the normal timelines because it's a reply to an *unlisted* (quiet public) post.
Those are not meant to show up in timelines, only when you open the thread directly. So your public reply is being excluded because it was a reply to a quiet public post. Makes sense.
@feld@stefano@zirias hate to intrude, but if y'all are still talking about mastodon, it doesn't show you replies unless you're following the OP AND the replier.
I boost some of my own replies for this reason. Some of my replies contain useful information like this that could be good for my followers to know.
@zirias@feld@stefano right, it's always been that way. You might have just noticed for some reason, like actually looking for a reply or whatever and you haven't before.
Oh! So, everything fine and I just never noticed this specific behavior before. 😳 That's definitely good to know, thank you! I boost some of my own replies for this reason. Makes sense 😉
