   Anybody seen all the dindu shills making a big deal about these football players “preaching” at an event that was largely a bunch of White kids and giving them baptisms?
   
   I’m torn. On one hand I love Jesus, on another I hate astroturf and this just doesn’t pass my sniff test.

     @vonzeppelin @Jewpacabra I thought baptism didn't require any ordination provided it's done in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. It's been a while since I looked into it.

     @BowsacNoodle @vonzeppelin @Jewpacabra Correct. Per canon law, anyone may administer the sacrament of baptism provided it's done with the correct matter (water), form (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and intent.
     
     It is however standard practice to baptize sub conditione to insure those three are correct when being received into the Catholic Church.

     @placebo @vonzeppelin @Jewpacabra I once had somebody argue with me against prison ministry (sending Bibles to shithole countries like the Gideons do) because they couldn't get proper formation and would be stuck reading a Bible... 🙄 Sometimes people need to get out of the way and realize God will use whatever means He wants to bring new people to Him.

     @Jewpacabra @jb The Jesus movement started with a bunch of hippies. I'm a Christian today because of parents attending one of those churches. Unfortunately they are often motivated yet lacking direction, so you get the parable of the seed on rocky soil.

Holy Baptism mystically unites a man to the Death and Resurrection of Our Lord - and also to a particular Bishop, by extension. So it makes sense *not* to just allow these things all willy-nilly.

     also true in roman catechism, but these aren't catholic or orthodox laymen in the first place

     anon pointed out that the church considers some baptisms valid even if not performed by a priest, which i'll (begrudgingly) stipulate may apply here
