     Most fandoms in my experience are filled with crazy people but in a fun way XD like the kind you see at a con xD

     And I mean, I might simp a little for hot BL guys... like cosplayed them wrote fanfics got posters a standee buttons fanart... a little.. xD

     You can't have parasocial relationships with fictional characters don't exist, because they do not have feelings and are not real.
     
     This is where vtubers specifically blur the line.

     * The vtuber characters and the entire world of Hololive is an immersive fantasy world like any other fiction.
     * The people behind the avatars are just paid actors, consider them equal to the seiyuu in your favorite anime.
     
     If you fail at realizing any of these things you should get your brain checked, because you might be schizophrenic.
     
     It's exactly like kayfabe in wrestling. And just like that some people do not have the mental capacity to see past the kayfabe and think it's al real or something.

     If you buy one of those fictional character weddings you're essentially just paying for a really elaborate personalized fictional experience with suspension of disbelief.

     @SuperDicq It was, yes, just like how weeb was invented as a derogatory term 20 years ago on the sewer/4chan and now 99% uses it happily and the dance night is called "club weeb".

     These days, simp also is used for massive fans, like I have a discord server in which someone is called "Hua Cheng Simp". XD

     And hey, don´t challenge Japan, they'll find a way! Remember that guy who married a Miku hologram - hell there is a wedding company on twitter that organises weddings with anime characters! XD

     @SuperDicq This is of course true, though maybe not for all other vtubers. Difference being these work for a company - obviously indie ones don´t have to be fake.

     I mean by that - take someone like catboy Fisky, he is indie, he likes the things he talks about IRL, so it isnt really a persona - more that the vtuber model allows him to express himself and do things that are otherwise obviously impossible.

     I can imagine there being more indie ones like that. Corporate? You're 10000% right

     Not gonna lie I like cute anime characters doing cute things so that's the main appeal.
     
     But what I like most about Hololive is the songs and music videos. They've produced hundreds of absolutely banger songs over the past 8 years that even regular fans of Japanese music would like.
     
     As for the streams I tend to watch the JP streams mostly because I think they are very good methods for immersive language learning.
     
     I like watching anime too, but my Japanese level isn't good enough to understand what the fuck is going on without subtitles. But you also don't really learn anything watching anime with subtitles on.
     
     Watching JP vtuber streams isn't really as frustrating as watching anime without subs. The language used in these streams is in general either simple to understand and very conversational. And usually you can understand what is going on from context alone, even if you don't fully understand every sentence or word that they are saying. I really find it to be a great learning tool.
     
     As for EN streams I usually don't really care. Most of them are boring. One EN stream that I enjoyed recently was ERB's Undertale stream, because she is really good at voice acting and gave every character in that game a really good and unique voice.
