CaptainButthurt (captainbutthurt@mstdn.jp)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jul-2024 22:41:24 JST CaptainButthurt @DW2 @sickburnbro keep in mind what happened in the late stage USSR to their leadership. In the early 80s after Breznev died, there was like half a dozen new leaders that replaced him over a period of year or so before they finally settled on the "young" Gorbachev. Their leaders kept dying on them suddenly. Their ruling class was just so old that they couldn't keep anyone alive long enough to do anything.

easy, i dunno about that, but genX certainly didn't have to deal with the same fucked up problems as millennials, who in turn don't have the same fucked up problems i'm seeing in the zoomers
my point is that when you roll through generations in the normal manner, this sort of thing can be avoided
boomers went from "muh social programs" to "muh stonks" to "muh social security" and drug the rest of us along without any pushback for thirty goddamn years, and they're still fucking there -

it's definitely true that we're a bunch of slackers, but I would argue that we infantilized our ownselves. we were told starting in the 80s that Social Security wouldn't be there for us, though we would pay into it all our lives, and that we would never achieve the living standard of our parents. 40 years ago they were telling us this. It was crystal clear that boomers were nothing but a bunch of consumer shitheels, that's where the "yuppie" perjorative came from. I remember everyone around me just looking at the whole thing (go to college! get a career! build credit!) and nope-ing out.
genX's main sin was that we saw the evil that was rising, in the form of sexual degeneracy, and we flinched (ht to PA, where is that guy?). many of us participated in it until it became clear it was the way of death. that's why I now have a late-life career of being a voice crying in the wilderness telling young wammans not to do these things, and exactly why it is bad. I don't think they heed me necessarily but at least someone is telling them the truth. -

dude I KNOW. I have close boomer cousins and they do this. It drives me crazy. They're good people, too, you would definitely want them in the ethnostate. It's just a peculiarity of boomers. They were lied to their entire lives, when the propaganda was subtler and well-hidden, and most people of any generation do not have the strength of character to consider that everything they believe might be wrong.Bread up, Bro likes this. -

I'd say this is spot-on. Anyone who knows and loves Austin can see it's not actually healthy, it's more like it just has all these metastasized real estate developments. The whole city is pockmarked by landmark businesses that were driven out by rent increases and nothing took their place. The buildings stand empty, covered in graffiti and weeds and fenced off to keep bums out while they build a brand-new luxury condo with retail on the first floor right next to it.Bread up, Bro likes this. -

It was such a great place to be a young slacker. Everybody was good-looking and had endless amounts of time on their hands bc none of us gave one single shit about careers (or family womp womp) we just romped and played in this beautiful city, making music and art and perfecting our weirdness. petra (petra@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jul-2024 01:11:18 JST petra @Bonsai @sickburnbro This is it exactly. It's easy to pacify people. Even the minimal ability to live that welfare provides is enough to keep people from rebelling.
I'm a tail end boomer that watched every ladder get pulled up through the X'ers span. Got balled up in that myself working in tech and having jobs moved overseas or displaced by migrants moving here. I have every sympathy with the generations after me that have seen stolen opportunity after stolen opportunity taken from them.
Pensions are what is keeping boomers and soon to be X'ers pacified as well. You won't risk anything if the result is literal homelessness. Not when you have a home now. But even boomers are ending up on the streets and in shelters because they worked a less than optimal career, on the margins. And now they slip over the edge with no real savings. Something that virtually never happened even 20 years ago.Bread up, Bro likes this. -
