   In order to cool the machines, operators attached thousands of #fans to the containers, which churned constantly, emitting a vicious buzz. As more machines were switched on, #noise sounded like a ceiling fan, then a leaf blower, then a jet engine. It consumed afternoon dog walks and revved through cloudless nights, vibrating trailer homes of many of the low-income residents who live blocks from the facility.

     @aral @katzenberger @BenjaminHCCarr The question the proof of work advocates need to answer is “if there’s a cryptocurrency that has value but uses 99+% less electricity to create it (Ethereum), why shouldn’t we just use that one?” I’ve asked this many times and have never gotten an answer I understand. Maybe I’m just not smart enough, but maybe there isn’t a good answer.
