COMMENTARY: Mastodon creator Eugen Rochko "defederates" the legitimate news organisations on brands.town, but has embraced disinformation from Threads — The message is clear.
@LavenderPawprints lmao. Yeah...one way to piss me off, is for someone to act like they don't give 1 single fuck about something I'm *obviously* passionate about.
He got on my bad side when the spam wave hit and they straight up said "We don't have time for better moderation tools"....😒
Like, bruh. If Linux issues didn't give me so much anxiety, I'd be off this "Fedi death spiral" software yesteryear.🤦♂️
@BeAware I'd love to run my own instance, but I don't do linux yet, and honestly I don't have the energy to deal with moderation and all that comes with it, even for a single account instance.
So long as users have the ability to launch their own instances, regardless what the big wig fuckers say or do on their lofty pirches, which is the majority of the point of federation to begin with, I'm a supporter of Fedi.
So if he wants to run his name and the branding into the ground and be one of those dumbasses, let him. Fedi exists now and it's not going anywhere at this point.
Still, moderation tools are very important, as I learned the other day. lol
However, I do worry a LOT about some of his features he's adding like reply limiting, and then coupled with quote posts, will come quote limiting.
They have so much "control" over Fedi with having 72% of the instances, I'm almost positive every other Fedi dev will have to adopt these features in some way.
The reason I don't like reply limiting is because of misinformation. We'll have PLENTY more "opt-in" lies as soon as that comes out, and of course other more critical misinformation
The reason quote limiting worries me, is because of the way Threads currently does quote posts and they're the ones who did quote limiting first.
Threads basically uses Misskey's quote post code. That is, whenever a user inputs a Fedi link into a post, it automatically turns into a quote post.
If that's how mastodon does it as well, say "bye bye" to linking of posts on Fedi....😬
@LavenderPawprints also, to touch on the "running your own instance" thing...honestly, I don't think it would be good for you.
EVERYTHING is "opt-out". Meaning, since there's dozens of new instances every day, there's also a handful of bad ones every week. So you'd have to literally live on Fediblock and Fediseer and make sure to stay on top of Oliphant's updates.
It would be quite stressful, I think.
I don't even do all of those things because they're too much to keep up with. However, I am not a visually impaired transgirl with major depression, anxiety, and past addiction issues, if you know what I mean. Because of who you are, it would be harder because you're someone that people look to attack, and that's really unfortunate.😔
@LavenderPawprints it follows it. You won't see major features missing from glitch like the ones I talked about. They will come, because their are devs that work on both, like Claire.
