@raccoon @mischievoustomato @sun_eat3r samsung makes really nice tablets with pencils too fwiw, and there’s various procreate like programs on android. That being said, I do think that the iPad and the pencil are the best products in their lineup (MacBooks are pretty decent too fwiw)

@marine
I have an older iPad and I’m kind of irritated at how good of a product it is

@raccoon >that just because something is free software it performs better
Developed free software almost always perform better.
I can easily bring my GNUbooted thinkpad everywhere I go if I wish.
>Go tell a professional photographer to replace Photoshop with gimp and see how well it will go.
Depending on what kind of post-processing the photographer wants to do, GIMP may contain all of the required image manipulation functionality.
It can crop, convert, scale, adjust colour values etc just fine, as well as all standard post-processing tasks.
Sure it won't let your conveniently do bizarre things that nobody asked for like automatically remove birthmarks from photos - you'd need to manually use the smudge tool for that, but why would you want to do that?
Too bad many photographers are unwilling to learn anything difficult once they've shackled themselves to a master.
>What are you even trying to show here?
The video demonstrates how "good of a product" ipads are when a native note tool is pitted against a CPU from 1999 running slow-ass non-native JavaScript when in comes to ability to type things. -

@raccoon I dunno - last time I used photoshop was years ago and even then I realized that it sucked at basic image manipulation tasks.
GIMP is far superior when it comes to image manipulation due to the easy of use for those tasks (every standard task is a keybind away), but isn't really comparable to photoshop for drawing tasks - I would compare Krita instead.
Even then, I found Krita much easier to use than photoshop for drawing.
I do not frame things in the sense of "alternatives", implying that running proprietary malware is just as good as running free software - I write and speak of replacements.
I mention that the software respects the users freedom and later describe or demonstrate the functionality if asked. -

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com
If you think gimp is easier than Photoshop you're so wrong. I can do some basic stuff on gimp, my dad uses it as a hobby and can do more. Neither of us can do shit on Photoshop.
Photoshop has a lot more than gimp and if you believe otherwise you're delusional.
Sadly most free software extremists are delusional.
You would convince a lot more people if instead of saying "Oh this free alternative does the same but better" you'd say "it's good enough but" and then moved on to describe what the actual good thing is, the freedom part.
Krita is one of the fee examples of free software that is just really, REALLY good.
Libre office is another. -

@raccoon >I assure you photographers who also do a lot of photo editing would have noticed.
Yes, a lot of photographers who do a lot of photo editing do use GIMP to do so - but why would they tell anyone they do so unless asked?
I edit photos with GIMP and I've edited a lot of photos in my life.
Sure there are some huge proprietary bubbles that makes it seem that every single photographer uses x proprietary software and you won't find anything that goes against that if the only place you look is inside the bubble. -

Dude, you can't compare the everyday use BS you have for those things with how a professional works.
If gimp was THAT good on top of being gratis I assure you photographers who also do a lot of photo editing would have noticed.
