@Aether "Copilot also doesn’t require many PC resources, with the app just needing 4 GB of RAM and a 720p display. So, even if you have a much older device, you will still get Microsoft’s AI assistant on your computer, whether you like it or not."
I'm assuming this is some very subtle humor, no? 4GB ram is .. still quite a bit.

That is like 25% of the RAM that a lot of people have. It's still well within normalcy to be packing only 16GB of RAM, and it's somewhat rare to have 64GB. A mandatory update centered around an unwanted feature that eats up anywhere from 5-25% of your RAM constantly is not a good move.
@icedquinn@ceo_of_monoeye_dating@Aether I feel like some of the midrange $800-900 ones from a few years ago that were the Win 10 sweet spot only has 8 as well.
@ceo_of_monoeye_dating@icedquinn@Aether only time I used more than 16GB was to deterministically solve TSP (20+ nodes) for uni. other than data analysis like that I think it's just goomers and server admins that might want that
@icedquinn@Aether Yeah? Lots of people don't actually use 32 GB of ram. I wouldn't even go near that on my windows machine if not for the fact that there's a ridiculous memory leak somewhere.
@ned@Aether One of my devices has 16, while the other has a lot more. So I'm assuming 16 must be a fairly standard amount to have installed. One dumb application that you aren't using very often using 1/4 of the total possible system memory seems absurd, and if it uses that much it probably won't want to release it since it will take a lot of time to reload whatever is in it.
