    One thing about SMF was that if you wanted to manage a service the old SysV way, then it still worked essentially as before. The one breaking change in SMF, really, was replacing inetd, and that part had a few rough edges early on.

    (An area of unhappiness with SMF was using XML as a user interface.)

      @apicultor @q66 @wyatt8740 @Okanogen @dashdsrdash @jnpn @ariadne @bremner Hell, even illumos & macOS have jettisoned SysV init without making everyone furious.

      Possibly because smf & launchd have well defined boundaries that haven’t grown continuously.

      I haven't, but it sure looks like #voidlinux runs a tight ship.

      #FreeBSD seems to be doing great without systemd too.

      @wyatt8740 @Okanogen @dashdsrdash @jnpn @apicultor @ariadne @bremner this is super funny to me because

      1) have you been to the devuan forums? if not i suggest taking a look
      2) ftr i strongly dislike systemd and am actively driving efforts to have properly portable session tracking and the likes without nasty and deficient workarounds like elogind

      any accusation against me that i'm a part of some kind of ibm conspiracy is both hilarious and sad
