With the news that yet another white supremacist was planning another mass shooting event, the more and more people need to be ready to jump into action to save lives.
This is my six item trauma kit list
    RECOMMEND:
    Tourniquet, x2
Chest seals, 6"x6", with vent, x2
    "Israeli-style" compression bandages, 6-inch, x2
Kaolin infused (Quik-Clot) packing gauze, at least 4 feet
    EMT Shears, x1
    Emergency Blanket (cold/shock), x1

You can't wait for help to arrive, YOU ARE THE HELP.

What's sad is that this is only going to save ONE person, IF they only have ONE torso wound and up to two limb wounds.
You will need to DOUBLE the tourniquets, compression bandages, and packing gauze, and TRIPLE the chest seals to save ONE person with multiple wounds.
If there is a mass shooting event, MULTIPLE people will need to be carrying these kits.
      Get the training, save LIVES.

@jeffowski Sounds like you’re misunderstanding me. Mass shootings are - despite the CNN article you mentioned - not common in Europe. That’s all I wanted to say. I’m all for learning first aid and being g able to help, but in Europe this would mean preparing for traffic accidents or heart attacks.

@schnabel -- I'm amazed that Europeans don't understand how small Europe is.
It is a full 1/3 more distance between New York and Los Angeles (2700 miles) than between London and Moscow (1800 miles).
I suppose if you divided up the US into quarters, you could see the similarities.

I think the risk of being close to a mass shooting in Europe is close to zero.

@schnabel -- EXACTLY... THANKS FOR MAKING MY POINT.
Even with the strictest gun laws, mass shootings are happening on a regular basis and happening at an increasing rate, IN SPITE OF THOSE LAWS.
Discounting gun violence because you're in Europe is simply you burying your head in the ground like an ostrich, ignoring the data and the trend.

@MossyQuartz - duct/duck tape is also really good for this too. The trauma kit is designed for someone with training to use those items to save gunshot trauma victims specifically.
No splints, no band-aids, no aspirin, not even a pair of latex gloves. Just the bare basics with the things that you need ASAP that you cannot improvise your way through.

@jeffowski as to your first aid advice, my advice is to be aware of alternative first aid materials. Those items on your list should only be used by people who have some knowlege of their proper use and average outcome risks of use. Food wrap and handkerchiefs are on my list. Someone I knew was teaching a first aid class and told us he actually used food wrap, plastic wrap, to cover a sucking chest wound (yes, after a shooting).

@jeffowski I’ll add in that it doesn’t have to be a shooting event. I live in a rural area where it can take at least half an hour for EMTs to arrive. A good understanding of first aid, what to do and what not to do should be something everyone knows. A fully stocked first aid kit should always be in your home and vehicle. A shooting, accident, or medical event can happen anywhere.

@autolycos - Completely ineffective to a torso gunshot wound. Also completely ineffective if the arm is completely off, which is the case for most assault rifle wounds to the arm.
Please get some actual EMT training before you share information that is factually extremely wrong.

      Kerlix
      Ace bandage

@autolycos -- Wow... You need major retraining or you forgot all of your training.
A chest wound in or near a lung CANNOT be packed. Your patient would not be able to breathe, and depending on where in the chest, may even impinge on heart function.
You can ONLY pack a wound that has muscle around it. Lungs and other organs are very squishy and cannot be packed in that manner, hence the chest seals.
If you really ARE a medical provider, you are jeopardizing your license with your original comment

The last thing you want to do is DISCOURAGE people from helping when TIME IS OF THE ESSENSE.
