@nosleep last couple of years and the incredible debt spending, flipping over to debt interest being the number one expenditure. other countries seeing this and actually trying to move away from the dollar. we're trying to pressure other countries and quietly turning tail when it fails.
I can feel the heightened tension in the propaganda news way more than I've ever felt it before. really bad vibes.
This isn't proof but in the past a lot of stuff worked while people suffered but now we're suffering and things are stopping working.

@mrsaturday @sun I have a few travel things I'd like to do. Being a weeb, Japan is on my bucket list.
But otherwise, I own a house and property, I don't have much other debt, my car is paid off, my life is comfortable. So I donate blood, I give money to charity, I help local programs when I can. I just try to do good in the world how I can, but I have zero percent interest in trying to re-build society after the feces hits the fan blades.

@prettygood @sun That's where I'm at. I still have a couple of dreams left (I've had to cross quite a few off as unrealistic) but once I get there, it's just living out my days and watching it happen, offering what little I can if the time comes.

@cine @mrsaturday @prettygood it depends on what you're most interested in there but demographic changes are accelerating opening up which is changing the things that made a lot of people excited about it. I have been there twice, with a 29 year gap between them and it was still so great that I recommend it to everyone.

@cine @mrsaturday @prettygood it is absolutely filled with natural beauty and there are many great historic buildings and temples but people are leaving for the cities and temples everywhere are being abandoned. and the uniqueness I saw in the early 1990s has been substantially changed by internationalism and the cultural influence of the Internet. Lots of small things. And selfish things like, missing when you could spend weeks in between seeing another non-Japanese face, to be immersed in unfamiliarity is a powerful experience.

This is where I am at with my own country. I will never have this but I kind of wish that I could go days without seeing a foreigner, whether a tourist and someone that settled here from abroad or now born here. This is where Japan is heading. I just don't need foreigners right on my doorstep. Especially now that I can learn about them online or go to their country.
