I don't mean the one that necessarily meets you where you are, but the one that feels like home and actually cares about feeding you spiritually and helping you grow in Christ. Whatever church that is, it might not be your forever home and you might not realize that when you join, and that's totally okay.

     What do you think you'd prefer? More of a "high church" liturgical/traditional setup, or something more contemporary or charismatic? Even within denominations (and especially in "non-denominational" churches), you'll find a lot of differences from one church to the next. I'd pick a few and email the priest/pastor and say you'd like to come by and you want to learn a bit about their church and explain your situation.

     Talking to Jesus, and listen to Him reply, is the only real requirement.
     
     When it says, knowing Jesus is eternal life, it is in a similar since, to a man and wife knowing each other. It is not a shallow relationship. It is a deep understanding and friendship that Jesus wants to have.
     
     And the only way to get that, is by talking with Him. You don't have to figure out how to be better friends, or trust Him more, or anything like that, you let Him worry about that, just talk with Him, about what ever you want.

     The irony was that I was raised by a Christian who had bad experiences with Christians her whole goddamn life, and never figured out she was the problem
     
     Not Jesus's fault, of course, except is the cosmic "why does god allow" sort of way
     
     But I'm almost 35 and I'm well aware that being a good Christian (or a saved Christian or whatever you want to call it) would not be enough to make me successful or even sane in the real world

     We all fall short of the glory of God, and not a single one of us is "good" -- hence the need for a savior. But anyway, good works comes from faith and fellowship with Christ ("You will know them by their fruits."), so if there's no real being a good person they're not really Christian.

     I still think that "nirvana" (lit, a "peaceful death") is a good term to use for the process of aging gracefully without bitterness or regrets. Anyone who is calm and pleasant in their old age has attained "nirvana" whether they are Christian or Hindu or anything else
     
     Unfortunately that's something that my parents are not modeling for me

     I don't know about that kind of lifestyle, again considering that I was a staunch atheist most of my life and just kinda drifted along. But it seems like a lot of people wear the football jersey without playing the field, so to speak, in regards to Christianity. It's readily apparent how so many people seem to think they just need to be a "good person" to get to Heaven.

     I still considered myself a buddhist when my mom passed. Maybe that's why I was so "numb" to her passing since that just meant she was reborn into one of 31 realms of existence or some such nonsense. I've never really sat down and contemplated my mom since converting to Christianity.

     Its been three years for me since my mom's gone and I cry every year about it. My mom had kidney failure.
     
     I was mad for a long time, hell, I'm still mad, but I'm trying to have faith.
