Bread up, Bro (sickburnbro@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 25-Apr-2024 22:23:58 JST Bread up, Bro @sj_zero @EssentialUtinsil We are so far beyond "not adding more debt" that isn't even a conversation worth having. The level of austerity required to adequately fund obligations would make post WW1 Germany wince. -

sj_zero (sj_zero@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Thursday, 25-Apr-2024 22:23:59 JST sj_zero Well there's certain things that they do have an influence over, and every candidate being presented would rack up more debt by signing extravagant budgets.
Considering just how much of the economy government spending is, that has a direct impact on the economy. Now, the actual numbers would look a lot worse if you spend less Federal money, but the actual economy would get better because the private sector wouldn't be fighting the government for those resources... -

Bread up, Bro (sickburnbro@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 25-Apr-2024 22:27:41 JST Bread up, Bro @sj_zero @EssentialUtinsil There is a reason I keep saying this is going to end up in a Spanish Civil War style event, because the only way you are going to have the authority to enact such a thing is a complete failure of the opposing vision.
You may not believe this, but I am patient. -

sj_zero (sj_zero@social.fbxl.net)'s status on Thursday, 25-Apr-2024 22:27:42 JST sj_zero Unfortunately, the only other option is a massive sovereign debt crisis, which might be the only option.... But if that's going to be an option, it needs to be an option that in the end results in a balanced budget because otherwise the United States will just become a backwater... -

GAE can probably buy time by killing off the Euro (in progress) and the Yen (next up), but I think they'll only get one trip at most to that buffet as it's debatable how much the dollar would be viewed as a "flight to safety" in a worldwide currency collapse. And, like I said, it would only buy time, maybe a few years, maybe a week.Bread up, Bro likes this. -

Crypto is probably the safest near-term. -

I guess so long as the equipment and expertise remain here, it can be seized and repurposed in an emergency.
